Be aware that the diagnostics mode is intended for trained Apple techicians - not users. It's not very user-friendly.

To enter diagnostics mode, hold the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo. When the logo comes up, hold the |<< and SELECT buttons to enter diagnostics.

Not sure why you would want to though - are you having a problem?

Cheers!

How about how do you get your iPod OUT OF DIAGNOSTICS MODE??

I never put it there. I just turned my iPod on today and I have a frozen screen: Read Verify scan, Battery check, volts, level, charge ok, canceled, etc. on screen.

I've tried everything, but nothing budges the screen.

The on and off does not work. The backlight stays on permanently, the hold on and off doesn't work, the reset or even restore doesn't work.

It's just STUCK.

I sure wouldn't advise anyone to "purposely" put their nano in diagnostic mode.

I'm assuming that is the mode my iPod woke up in this morning, but it is terminal and nothing functions on it.

Thank you for responding. I've tried to reset it. No menu is showing. Nothing is showing on the screen except "Read Verify Scan" with various items: Battery Check, Volts, Level, Charge OK, Canceled showing on a list, and at the bottom Menu to Continue. I tried clicking on anything to get that Menu to Continue to respond to something, but this thing is totally frozen on that screen.

What is happening is NO BUTTONS work, no resetting works, toggling the hold button doesn't work, the backlight stays on continously, there is no getting out of the mode it is in; I even tried updating thinking that would jar something loose, but nothing gets the frozen screen out of the window.

Thanks - in the other thread? I just got that one too. I just wasn't sure which forum to post this problem in, but it looks like there is NO solution.

The buttons do not make anything function. So I've tried resetting, restoring, toggling the hold switch, tried to turn iPod off, plugged it in, put it in the base and connected to computer, out of the base and connected to computer, backlight remains on continually with the "Read Verify Scan" screen frozen in my window.

No button will budge it.

MIRACLE!! Guess what? ALL DAY, literally, off and on, I would go in and try to reset my iPod Nano and go through everything, reset, restore, toggle hold button, push this push that! I figured it couldn't get worse than it is already.

And after doing this all day, tonight I FINALLY SAW THE APPLE! WHOA!!!! When I saw that I prayed for continuation as usual!

Now I'm afraid to shut it off.

Does it hurt to just let the iPod sit in the base playing? I'm so afraid to shut it off.

What started it this morning was it had BEEN OFF, and I merely turned it on.

So what'd'ya think? Can I just leave it on the base-charger and let it run?
