Windows Media Player in Safari

I was wondering if anybody knows how to watch videos using Windows Media player through Safari. I'm trying to watch vidoes on Comedy Central's website and it says that I don't have the required plug-in. So, i downloaded and installed the media player, but I'm still not able to view any of the videos.

Any suggestions?

Microsoft has ceased development of WMP/Mac and is now offering a free version of Flip4Mac called Windows Media Components for Quicktime. This plugin redirects Windows media to Quicktime and I have found that media opens in a Quicktime player within a browser window. If the Windows media file or stream requires WMP 10 codecs or is protected, then you still will not be able to view it. Microsoft, especially, has stated that protected media will never be viewable in anything other than Windows.

I do not know if the Windows Media Components is available as a universal binary yet. One of the problems you are probably encountering with Windows Media Player is that it is not a universal binary so you would need to force Safari to run under Rosetta for it to see WMP. You do this by control-clicking on the Safari icon and choosing Get Info. You would then choose the Rosetta option and close the Get Info box. Safari will run slower under Rosetta.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM! i also tried to open the drawn together motherload page, and it said that i didnt hav the plug in installed. BUT I DO ; ITS EVEN IN THE PLUGINS FOLDER. And another plugin error is with sibelius scorch, i hav the plugin but im still gettin the error message! ***!!!! ive tried everything , even upgrading my OS.

I have a MacBook, so it runs with intel. and NO, theres is no windows media component for intel based macbooks.

WUTS THE PROBLEM?!

The problem is that Safari is Universal Binary and will thus run on a power PC or an Intel based machine without the need for Rosetta. However, the WMP version 9 plug in is not Universal Binary and thus it must run under Rosetta.

Note that after installing WMP and looking under Help>Installed Plug-ins you will NOT see WMP, even though you installed it. You need to tell Safari to run under Rosetta.

Here is what you do:

1. Close Safari
2. Right click the Safari application icon (it has the extension .app and can be found typically in the "applications" folder
3. there is a small check box that reads "Open using Rosetta", check that box
4. open Safari and enjoy your videos!

Note that Safari runs slower under Rosetta, but not much to be honest.

I have the same exact problm.
I tried to follow the different advices : download WMP (it IS an old version, from 2003), tried Firefox, and even download Flip4mac. Nothing works.
I am just trying to view an interview on CNN web site and all I get is that I need WMP 9 and above. Even if the Window Media Player is open, it does not work. I even rebooted the mac several time, an habit that I lost with my other G4...

It's frustrating because I just bought this MacBook for my little brother, convincing him that the compatibility with the PC word had increased, and first try first miss. It's his first computer....
