After installing the software package Office 2011 asks after every restart for the product key.
Remark: during installation I received a remark to close Safari.
Has anyone an idea?

Have you entered the correct product key? Usually, you receive it when you enter the serial number. If you really mean the serial number, then you need to enter it. Do you have a serial number?
Closing Safari during installation is normal.
Office 2011 is acting a bit weird in Mavericks. When I installed it, it of course asked for the product key, which I entered. All of the apps worked as expected. The next day, I ran all of the updates. After that was done and I launched one of the apps, it asked for the product key again. It hasn't asked again, so I hope that's it.
It's not just Mavericks. I work in IT and got 3 new machines for some users a couple weeks back, and after installing Office in Mountain Lion had the exact same situation. Even wiping it clean and starting over had no change in the issue of it keep asking for a new serial after ever reboot.
Have you guys tried to enter the serial number as an admin? On two Macs of ten we need to enter the number every morning. User has no admin rights. I started Excel and Word as Admin, though the licence was already there. In addition I ran a repair permissions in Disk Utility which found some issues.
We will see tomorrow what will happen.
