Thanks very much. Any ideas why main stage is so much cheaper than pro logic? I'm looking to play the keyboard using pad sounds. So this will be possible by buying main stage for £21 and then a midi USB cable? Thanks again.
Logic is a totally different product. It's a DAW, with instrument and effects plugins, loops, etc. It's designed for multitrack audio and MIDI recording and mastering. It also does music notation. At $199US, it's a bargain. Mainstage is designed for live performance, and at $29.99US, it's a steal. Just connect via a USB to MIDI cable. If your keyboard has a USB port you'll need only a USB cable.
I'm looking to use an electric piano to be able to use pad sounds ect.
would mainstage or logic be best for me?
maybe one day i would like to record the pad sounds as a backing track.
How uch should I pay for a usb midi lead and is this all that I would need? Thanks very much for your help.
If you have the money, buy both. You can do basic recording in Mainstage, but it's not designed for multitracking or editing. If your main use is pad sounds, Logic would be overkill, but may be needed to record more than the most basic backing track.
USB MIDI cables go online from $5 to $50. The cheap ones are hit or miss. Some work and some don't, so order several. I've had success with those ranging in the $20+ range. Yhis one is good:

Also, the name brands like Hosa, Yamaha and Roland are reliable.
