Logic is a totally different product. It's a DAW, with instrument and effects plugins, loops, etc. It's designed for multitrack audio and MIDI recording and mastering. It also does music notation. At $199US, it's a bargain. Mainstage is designed for live performance, and at $29.99US, it's a steal. Just connect via a USB to MIDI cable. If your keyboard has a USB port you'll need only a USB cable.

If you have the money, buy both. You can do basic recording in Mainstage, but it's not designed for multitracking or editing. If your main use is pad sounds, Logic would be overkill, but may be needed to record more than the most basic backing track.


USB MIDI cables go online from $5 to $50. The cheap ones are hit or miss. Some work and some don't, so order several. I've had success with those ranging in the $20+ range. Yhis one is good:

Also, the name brands like Hosa, Yamaha and Roland are reliable.
