Hey Piggly522 - did you ever get this figured out?  I have the same problem.  Sometimes it works, but usually it doesn't.  I just get the grey triangle even though it says it's a new voicemail.  And, all this started with OS7.  Annoying.  Let me know if you came across an easy fix - or if I need to call AT&T.  Thanks!

I have the same problem. It doesn't happen on every voicemail and sometimes after some time - a few hours or a day or so - the message becomes playable. However, there are always messages there - I can call my cell #, enter my password and listen to the voicemail there, but not on my visual voicemail. I have not yet called AT&T (my carrier) but I'm sure they'd say the voicemail is fine on their end... Anyone ever figure this out?

UPDATE - I tried razmee209's suggestion of doing a reset and that worked. Those visual voicemails are now also audible!! :-) Thanks Razmee!

Try deleting all of the messages in your deleted messages folder.

I also had this exact same problem. The play button for a recent voicemail received while I was on Do Not Disturb mode was greyed out. All other existing voicemails could play fine. "Force exiting" the phone app itself alone, didn't help. Turning the phone of and then on didn't help. But performing the restart procedure that Razmee209 suggested fixed the issue. Thanks!

Had the same problem with 5s using EE in the UK. However, reset (top and bottom buttons - hold simultaneously until apple symbol appears) works fine for me and enables both older and new messages.

Keep in mind that if the caller heard the beep but did't actually leave a message, that couple of seconds of silence is enough to indicate there is a message when there actually isn't. Best to test by leaving yourself a proper message if you think that may be the case.

I've been having this same problem since IOS7 came out. Since then, I've upgraded my phone (iPhone 6 now), changed networks (O2 -> EE) and am now on IOS8, but still the problem remains. Various solutions on here fix it temporarily, but the problem always returns. I'm totally fed up with this. Apple are almost as bad as Microsoft now. Such a shame - it used to be such a fantastic company with fantastic products.

Me, too! I never had this problem with my 4s and I just recently upgraded to iPhone 6 and now I'm constantly needing to restart my phone in order to get these messages to play. When I saw the video footage of those poor Chinese workers falling asleep at their desks at the Apple factory, I thought: "This explains why Apple products are going to crap!" We pay so much money for these things - why can't Apple afford to pay their workers a decent wage so that they don't screw up making them? How awful.... We're seriously stuck with this problem for good now?
