Q: LuxGSM becomes POST ... and iPhone 5s become crazy

Hello,

I'm not sure my question will get any attention.

Luxembourg is very small and I have been told only Apple can solve my problem.

I have a brand new iPhone 5s and I love it ... but at the same time Apple release their last iPhone, the cellular provider decided to rebrand ...

LuxGSM is now POST ... and it seem my iPhone is very confused about that.

I very often loose 3G, it keep on switching between LUXGSM and POST. I have not find yet a way to keep POST 3G active, but each time I loose the network (or switch to LUSGSM), I either turn off the phone and turn it on again, or I go Airplane mode (without mooving of course) ... and it seems to be back again when I turn it on or get to Connectivity mode again.

It seems that I loose the POST 3G, in buildings, parkings... and I'm back to LUXGSM again.

Some guys at POST told me it's in Apple's hand ... they have to update the carrier info.

Really ! Really !  how long does it takes Apple to update this ? I had hope when the release 7.0.3 ... but still the same problem.

Can anyone confirm ? What are your suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

    Hey there -PhS-,

It sounds like you are getting some odd activity with your cellular connection. I want to recommend the troubleshooting steps in this article named:

iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3780

    1. Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings, turn airplane mode on, wait three seconds, and then turn off again.
    2. Restart your iPhone.
    3. Ensure that your software is up to date:
    4. Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
    5. If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try toggling it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
    6. Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still does not, contact your carrierto report the issue.
    7. Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    8. Restore the iPhone as new.
    9. Contact your carrier to:
      • Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
      • Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
      • Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.

If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Regards,

    Sterling

Thank you very much for this troubleshoot.

But this is the regular predifine step which are not even taking care of the particularity of the situation.

You seem to ignore my description and reply with a predefine text ... as exemple there is no Apple Retail Store in Luxembourg.

I already tried many things, including talking to the carrier and it's them whom told me about the carrier info.

Please read carefully my post before pasting a predifine answer.

Carrier information, carrier profiles are provided by the carrier. It appears that Post is a supported carrier. They would be the ones to provide you the correct settings. Has the carrier offered to provide you with a new SIM? It sounds as if the carrier has issues if their service keeps changing between Post and LuxGSM. Recheck with the carrier, as they provide the carrier profile to Apple. If you go to Settings>General>Software update, does it prompt you to install a new carrier file?

Just went to Software update as suggested ... and now I'm installing 7.0.4

We will see if it changes anything.

I do agree with you about the issue of the carrier changing between Post and LuxGSM...

The guy told me they did in deed provided the carrier profile to Apple , and he added that now Apple as to push it ...

Don't know what truth was in there, but that's all I got.

I also agree with you about the switching SIM may help, and that what I will ask ... if it continues and 7.0.4 does not change anything (the new carrier profile would be pushed inside 7.0.4 ? or is it systematicaly advertise as a carrier update and distinc from regular software update ?)

    Thanks

Sometimes carrier updates come with software updates, but not always. Apple does not necessarily put out an iOS update just to put out a carrier update. They can come separately. I've not known of Apple holding carrier updates either. As soon as I hear of a carrier update from the carriers here in the US, they are pushed out. You would be able to tell the difference in Settings>General>About>Carrier. If you knew the carrier number before, you could compare it to the one after you update to iOS 7.0.4. Good luck.

    Carrier       LUXGSM 15.5

... I don't know what it was before the update but it's not encouraging.

also if I tap on Carrier it changes to

    PRL                 1

For the moment it seems to be correctly connected to POST with 3G ... but I'm not screaming victory too fast, wait and see.

    Thanks again.

Hope fully my friend won't have done the update and tomorrow (it's night here) I will be able to compare with his Carrier Version (on an iPhone 5)

I was offered to install a carrier update today after updating to IOS 7.1. Before Update: LUXGSM16.0. After Update: POST 16.1. You can see this in General->About->Carrier. Might solve your problem, I never had the OP's issue on my phone.

I got the carrier update proposed to me also ... but only after having plug my iPhone to iTunes, thanks to you.

Before that I had already update to iOS 7.1 over the air, and the Carrier was still LUXGSM16.0.

I will let you know if this help not loosing my 3G on POST, I want to test it at the usual places.

    Thanks

The decision of changing from LUXGSM to post was a sudden one since all the rest (Invoicing, official papers) was done later. This change should have been prepared correctly.  I don't think Apple is to blame if they were not informed in due time. Don't believe what customer service of Post tells you.

I just made the carrier update but not sure if this will solve the 3G data reception in Capellen.

Me to got the problem of continuous switch between LUXGSM and Post and even Edge and 3G. Since about 2 years my reception for data and voice is horrible in Capellen. Before it was trouble free.

The Helpdesk of LUXGSM/Post said it was due to iPhones. BUT this argument was an UNPROFESSIONAL statement since all my neighbors had problems with any brands. I got a contact with a network specialist at the provider who said this was due to the limited capacity of the network and the not enough antennas in the region which require acceptance of the commune.  I think it is a problem to put 4G in the same frequencies range of the old Edge, because it simply reduces the availability of the network in Edge and possibly 3G.

Post should make additional efforts in providing quality service and better preparation in their infrastructure.
