Q: iPad2 use with a AirPrint compatible printer

I purchased a Brother HL-5450dn printer, which is supposed to be AirPrint compatible, to use with my iPad2. I did not realize that I had to have a Wi-Fi network to do so, and this is for a vacation home, so I do not want or need a Wi-Fi network. Is there a cable I can use to connect my iPad to the printer?

Do both the printer and the iPad have to be connected to the same wireless network, or can I visit a Starbucks and send files to the printer? As you can tell I am a neophyte about this technology, and wireless products in particular.

Yes they two need to be connected to the same wireless network. If you go the Starbucks route with both the iPad and the printer, they will be connected to the same network?

You could also purchase a small Wi-Fi router like Apples Airport Express and set up a Wi-Fi network at your vacation home. The two devices and the Airport Express do not need to be connected to the internet. The airport Express will create the Wi-Fi network and each device will connect to it.

Make sure this works at home before leaving for your vacation home. Some printers require an initial set up while connected to a computer running a setup CD.
