Notes created in the iOS7 app do not sync w Notes which I open w the application on Mac 10.8.5. I've checked my settings on the iPhone, and on MacBk Pro in Sys Prefs >Mail… for both my IMAP accnt and for iCloud. Clearly I've failed somewhere; help would be appreciated.

OP, I was having the same problem after updating to Mavericks. Here is what I did to fix the issue I was having.
Open Notes on Mac:
Notes --> Accounts --> Click iCloud Account --> Uncheck the Notes sync check box
It'll tell you that any notes you've created on the Mac will be deleted (I only had 1 so it was fine for me).
Go back in and check the box to sync Notes and it should refresh it. I checked on my phone and all of the old notes were there as well as the new notes I've created on my iMac.
