Because the next step is a paid upgrade only available on DVD.

So there's no way I can put ITunes on my mac without buying a update !

iTunes works fine on my MacBook, so I don't understand this and it reads my phone !

The version of iTunes compatible with 10.5.8 doesn't support syncing devices running iOS 7.

I would suggest calling Apple and requesting a download code for OSX Lion, then updating to OSX Mountain Lion or Mavericks if you wish through the App Store.

djctaylor is running 10.5.8 and therefore won't have a Mac App Store, which is necessary for installing Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks.

Apple announced the iPhone 3GS on June 8, 2009, the same day that Snow Leopard (10.6) was announced, thus making the 10.5 Leopard system pretty much unsupported for any further update except some security updates. So basically, you are trying to install software made for new OSXs on a Mac running a four and a half year old OSX. I doubt even apple could not see the future of OSX and iOS syncing at that stage.
Basically, It's time to think about updating your OSX or Mac for workable compatability.
    Cheers

Thanks everyone! the thing is it won't update my mac should up date like my MacBook has, but it just comes up with everything is updated when it is not, so I think a trip to apple it will be again !

You Mac will not update any further from 10.5.8 unless you purchase the Snow Leopard 10,6 DVD and update it to 10.6.8  Then you will have the App Store to purchase further OSXs (only downloadable, no hard disc media anymore). Just check that your Mac is compatable to the updates and be aware that a lot of your software (allPPC software for example) will no longer work. You can check these at http://roaringapps.com

    Good Luck
