OSX Mavericks - DVD Ejects on startup

Ever since I upgraded to OSX Mavericks, my game DVD ejects every time the computer starts up. I have tried clearing the PRAM to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

Do they eject if inserted when the relevant software is loaded? If not, the eject on startup normally happens if the mouse button is depressed during startup. You sure you are not leaning on your mouse or trackpad while it is starting up? Have you tried removing all input devices that are external to see if it makes a difference?

They don't eject after I have logged in, or when I shutdown, only right before the login screen is displayed.

I do have a kensington wireless USB trackball and I read that same thing elsewhere. I removed the USB receiver and disconnected everything but the power cable, and it was still ejecting.

Last night I tried resetting the PRAM, and today I tried your suggestion about the other discs.

This Macbook Pro did not do this prior to the upgrade. It had Lion installed with it, and upgraded to Mountain Lion, no issues. It only started after the installation of Mavericks.

I have a bootcamp partition running Windows 7, and if I boot into it with the Game DVD in, it does not eject the DVD, and can read it just fine. Once I reboot into Mavericks, it ejects prior to login.

Hey there a brody,

I verified that I have Kensington Trackball Works installed, and it loads a helper at startup. I uninstalled the software, verified complete removal and rebooted. Once I saw that nothing loaded, and verified the console logs didn't show anything identifiable, I inserted the different discs, and they all still eject.

I guess I will just chalk this one up to a new OS quirk. Thank you for all your responses and suggestions.

Kulbreeze,

I have the same issue with a game DVD in my MacBookPro, since Mavericks. So, you are not the only one hit with this "quirk." My discussion thread has not produced a resolution or an explanation yet, but I will share it when I receive it.

Eric Root,

That's a good thought, but not applicable to this situation. The CD/DVD's load and read just fine. In fact, this suggestion was mentioned to me a week ago.

The OP and I both want to leave a game DVD in the SuperDrive when we shutdown, so that it will load, without any intervention on our part, when our MacBookPro's next bootup again. We could do this before Mavericks, but since Mavericks our MBP's insist on spitting out the disk during the bootup process, often twice during bootup (if we immediately reinsert the disk when it is ejected).

Short of finding a fix in this version of Mavericks and having to wait for 10.9.1, no one has been able to explain why we can't have what we've always had.
