I prefer to tap the power button to open the shut down dialog instead of putting my mac to sleep. Is there anyway to change this setting on mavericks? Does anyone else feel the same way?

Other operating systems have managed this. I don't know why Apple insists on suddenly foisting a particular behaviour on people, especially when poor design decisions have been made on the placement of power keys on some devices in the first place.

Phil, it's great that the menu can still be accessed with a long press, but unfortunately that won't resume the downloads that get killed when accidentally tapping the power button sleeps the computer.
