Keynote Remote App NOT working with Aire (bluetooth or hotpot)

Please help. Even an Apple Store One to One guy could not solve this. He was googling these boards!

The Keynote remote app (on my iPhone 5 iOS7) does not work using Bluetooth or Hotpot with my Macbook Aire (OS X Mavericks). Sure a wifi connection works, but I need to give my presentation where there is no singal. I have tried everything.

1) Bluetooth pairing fails. I am told this is a hardware issue with Aire 11" Mid-2011

2) Firewall is allowing Keynote connections, so this is irrelevant.

3) "Create a network" from my Aire used to work fine before IOS7, but since then nada.

4) Hotspot freezes the remote like everyone is talking about in this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5351254?answerId=23357152022#23357152022

Furthermore, even if I wanted to buy one, the infrared remote does not work with the Aire.

My unbelievable conclusion: There is apparently NO way run Keynote using a remote with out a wifi signal. How could this be possble?? Please tell me I'm wrong.
