To protec Numbers files with password, does it work really?

I have seen several old topic on how to protect Numbers files with password. This issue seems to be solved with IOS7, nevertheless if I can transfer from PC to IPAD protected files, and if opening them I'm requested to introduce the password, once open a first time and despite of the padlock icone on the file icon the system doesn't ask me the password any further! The file remains open even after closing and reopening the IPAD.
