can't delete files from external harddrive

Hi trusted community.

So I bought a new external harddrive as the old one was slowly crashing. I copied everything from my old external harddrive to the new one but now as I want to delete a lot of these really old files (including documents, movies, pictures etc) i get the following message:

The item “filename” can’t be moved to the Trash because it can’t be deleted.

I have googled so much and can't find anything that helps me out! I am getting quite frustrated as I have tried so many different things all day. Also, it does not seem that the files are locked.

Any help is super much appreciated

Thanks everybody

The drive you bought is porbably fomatted NTFS. But then if it was you wouldn't be able to copy anything to it.

Post a screen shot of a Disk Utility window showing that external drive and selected with the partition tab selected.
