Can I still find my iphone 5 IOS7 if someone has taken out the SIM?

I lost my iphone 5 white in Edinburgh on the weekend. Ive tried to ring it, it went through a couple of times but now goes straight to answer phone.

I tried to track it using 'Find my friends' and "Find my iphone' but the phone is offline.

I have the feeling the person that took it may have already took the sim out. Is there anyway to track the phone once the SIM has been taking out? If so surely the 'find my iphone' app is completely useless.

If so Apple's fight against iphone theft isn't going well 😟

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.1

You can only use Find My Phone if your phone is connected to the Internet, using either WiFi or 3G. I suspect your phone has either been turned off or it has run out of battery. Either defeats Find My Phone. Since you're running iOS 7.0, the phone will be useless to anyone but you, as it cannot be re-activated without knowing your Apple ID/Password.

Cheers dude! Yea I thought that was the case. But surely if the phone then becomes useless there is no point of thieves having the brick. There must be a away the b******* can get through the security! I've thought of jailbreaking my iphone 4 to download a few apps which has better tracking services than 'find my iphone' but it maybe just a lost cause.

How, exactly, could an App track an iPhone that has had access to wi-fi & cellular blocked?

And, yes, there are ways around the Activation Lock. There are ways around anything. All the Activation Lock is intended to do is to deter theft. To be honest, anyone with the technical know-how to do so would be able to make far more money legitimately than they would by boosting iPhones.
