my mac shuts down completly when i connect to the internet it will work fine for hours if i am working offline. any one else had anything similar

Hi, how are you connecting to the Internet?

Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem & the Startup right after that for clues.

Also in Console see if there's a Crash Reporter log for the browser you were using.
