Mail showing wrong number of incoming emails

Hi

Does anyone have any idea why, since installing Mavericks, my Mail often shows the wrong number of emails arriving in my inbox? For example it might show 18 incoming messages, when in fact only four arrive in my inbox. There are no Junk messages appearing.

Occasionally it also shows a wrong (larger) number for outgoing too.

Any advice gratefully received!

Hi paulgilbert,

If you are having an issue with Mail behavior in Mavericks, you may want to make sure that you have installed the most recent Mail Update:

Absolutely truly noted. Yet another bug from the avalanche of bugs that flooded us since Mavericks. Apple has a LOT to do. A particularity that might be of importance is that I use POP3 accounts only. On the other hand Apple might be focusing on IMAP and knowing Apple once it decides for something, …well that’s it, all of a sudden we all are forced to that thing only and nothing else. Maybe someone here with IMAP can confirm if the bug exists also for that protocol.

I've noticed the same thing but it is NOT due to Maverick. This has been the case for some time. I used to think it was my (wonderful) set of rules that I had set up that were filtering out dozens of spam etc. But of course that theory broke down when I realized that the out going numbers were high too when I was only sending one email.

So it is definitely a glitch but not a uniquely Maverick one.

That's not the right attitude and will never have a success. If Apple wants to better their products, they can easily sacrifice the salary of one, or even many guys, who will scroll Apple's forums in particular, but also the net in general, looking for reported bugs and forward them to development. I myself, as a customer should not be burdened with the inconvenience of reporting to the "mighty one" without a sole acknowledgment on top of having to live with countless bugs, that should have not been there to begin with. And frankly not only me, but most of users are way too busy with their own problems, to spend precious time chasing king Apple. Apple is not god and will never be! Just a lousy, self absorbed, profit seeking corporation. Mark my words - soon, very soon all those misconceptions will be revised through force in the heads of the people. Time has come for a fundamental change of all known understanding to date!

I have this same problem. I have a number of accounts set up - all POP apart from iCloud. Since upgrading to Mavericks, the count for new mail and sending mail are always higher than they should be. It was disconcerting at first, especially the suggestion that mail was sending 'extra' mails.

As far as I can tell so far, it is only an issue of the mail count, but it really doesn't inspire confidence.
