iPhone not receiving calls

When someone calls me it rings on their end but not on mine. I don't receive a missed call and so I have no knowledge of people ever calling me. I only receive text messages when I touch my phone also. I have checked network connection and there are no problems there. has anyone had any similar issues and a way to resolve this?

Same problem here. The issue isn't that the phone isn't ringing or vibrating - the call is not even registering as coming through. Some of my calls come through fine, phone rings and all is well. Other times, I'll suddenly get the voicemail ping. When I look at the call history, there is no record of anyone just calling me - and yet, someone did because they left a voicemail.

This nonsense of being told it's user error (check do not disturb, check that the switch on the side is not turned off, etc) is just that nonsense. If that was a problem none of the calls would come through. And if the ringer was turned off, I would still have a record of the call being received.

My cell phone is my business line and missing calls is not an option. I have one call that comes through the same time every week - and that one didn't ring last week. The client was upset because he believed I wasn't in the office to receive the call. Not true. I was - the phone never rang and I only realized he tried to call when I got the voicemail sound. Which proves that the sound is turned on - or I wouldn't have heard that.

I had the same problem and here's how I fixed it: Go to Settings - Do Not Disturb - Allow Calls From. Check to make sure its set to Everyone. After downloading a software update my phone stopped ringing and when I checked this setting it had been set to Favorites so unless the call came from someone on my Favorites list it didn't ring. Hope this helps!

I am having the exact same problem Marijke Vd.

Missing calls and texts. I will restart/reboot my brand new iPhone 6 & all of a sudden I will get a voicemail alert & text messages.

I have troubleshooted with my carrier & they see call error in their logs but have determined its an apple problem.

I called Apple support & they said its a carrier problem then they had me change my Do not disturb from 'favourites' (even though Do not disturb was not enabled and the calls I was missing were from people in my favourites) & my phone appeared to work for a bit but the goes back to no calls & no texts.

I have done a factory reset, network reset & I continuously reboot my phone but this only temporarily (an hour or so) works and then the phone goes back to missed calls & missed texts.

My software is up to date.

Very frustrating.

Brand new phone and it is not reliable.

Apple, is anything being done to fix this problem?

The steps outlined above are not working.

Is this a software issue?

I have been having the same issues. I have iPhone 6 with Sprint service.

My settings and criteria:

  • Do not Disturb: Not on (Same as surfnlady- I do not use "Do not disturb", my husband was on Favorites, but neither calls nor text from him came through)
  • Blocked phone numbers: none
  • Call forwarding: no
  • Updated to most recent iOS: yes
  • Updated carrier settings: yes Sprint customer service spent hours troubleshooting only to find out it was not related to Sprint's network or services.
  • SIM card: does not have SIM card
    • Isolated network band: no, has happened on 3G, 4G, LTE, and wifi
    • Billing related problem: Nope, we auto draft payments and have never missed payment
  • Local service outages: Nope- not with carrier or power (Wifi)
  • Properly configured account - yes per Sprint. I also think this is not option, since phone works after restart.

Temporary solutions:

  • Restart phone: works for few days after each restart, but issue always resurfaces
  • Airplane mode: Sometimes this works- there have been times that I found out I was still missing calls after turning airplane off and on.
  • Throwing phone against the wall - haven't tried this yet, but it's looking like a possible option

So at this point, I think I’ve tried almost every solution. If anyone has some other solutions, please let me know. I am frustrated by the issue of missing several phone calls and text messages.

In my opinion, I feel like this is a bug in the iOS. My husband has 5S and I've also missed calls/text from Android users, so maybe it's related to multiple iPhone versions and non-apple products not playing well with each other. Hopefully Apple is able to fix in a new release ASAP; I don’t think restarting my phone daily is an acceptable long term solution.

WOW guys, after struggling for months, I've finally found a solution for this problem.

Details on my situation:

I bought a T-mobile iphone 5s in Mexico that i unlocked successfully with R-sim.

My iphone is on ios8.2.

After 2 weeks of usage, i noticed my wife wouldn't respond to my texts or calls. I began to wonder, then i realized that i could send texts and realize calls with no problem but not receive them.

I struggles with Do Not Disturb, i restored my phone, i reset network settings, and waited patiently for other alternatives while researching EVERYWHERE!!!

I was starting to blame the heat, the rsim, the Telcel signal down here, and endless culprits.

I read on the most unlikely of places a tip that caught my eye.

https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/77702/My+phone+is+not+able+to+make+or+receiv e+calls,+why

I read something about a conflict caused by LTE, 3g, 2g and home wifi signals, which caught my eyes because i knew days before i noticed my problem i fiddled with my settings.

AMAZINGLY, when i switched Voice & Data under my cellular setting to 2G, IT WORKED!!! i receive calls, make calls, receive and send text, no internet due to the unlock but its ok.

I really hope this helps guys, i know i had special circumstances but hey, any help is useful.

I hope my post isn't removed because of my methods, but give it a try guys and let me know if it results.

My iPhone 5 started to develop this problem a few weeks ago - intermittent and, to begin with, so infrequent that I assumed I hadn't heard the phone ring. Over the last few days it became an almost constant problem - the caller would hear the ring tone but my phone did not ring nor did it register the missed call - however, if the caller left a voicemail, that would come through.

To begin with switching the phone off and restarting it worked for a short time - after a while it made no difference. Updated the OS and this worked for a few hours. Explored the privacy settings - very confusing and, anyway, these should only block the ring rather than the call list. Toggling Airplane mode made no difference. Began to think about buying a different make of phone (I do need to be reliably contactable).

Read 7echos message - turned off my wifi reception and, for the last 24 hours, my phone has worked. I've turned the wifi on again - confusingly, it still works so I have to keep checking my phone (by ringing it from another phone) - even if this fix works, it is likely to be some time before I trust it.

Whatever Apple may say, this seems to be a software bug that goes back nearly two years and they don't seem to be taking it seriously yet. However, without the reassurance of a definitive answer, I'm unlikely to get another iPhone when I upgrade later this year as it does seem to affect a range of models.

I had this same problem - repeatedly missed vital calls for my career this week - turns out I accidentally pressed the moon icon and for whatever reason the default setting is that I only receive calls from my favorites.

I feel like this should either not be the default setting or it should be clearly explained - since the moon icon ("do not disturb") is so easy to press on the phone.

Hello exxtraordinaryyx,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

For more information on this, take a look at:

iPhone: Troubleshooting issues making or receiving calls

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3406

  1. Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
  2. Check your phone settings:
  3. Ensure that your software is up to date:
    1. Check for a carrier settings update.
    2. Check for an iOS software update.
      Note:
Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
  4. If the iPhone has a SIM card, reseat the SIM card.
  5. If the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s is on the Verizon network, dial *228 from the iPhone and select option 2 to update the Preferred Roaming List (PRL). The PRL determines the cellular towers the phone uses for cellular service, selecting those with the best signal strength.
  6. Reset the network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  7. Try to make or receive calls in another location.
  8. Attempt to isolate to one network band:
    • If you're having the issue on LTE, disable LTE, if possible, and try again.
    • If you're having the issue on 3G/4G, disable 3G/4G, if possible, and try again.
  9. Contact the carrier to check the following:
    • Your account is properly configured to use the specific iPhone that has the issue.
    • There are no localized service outages.
    • Your account doesn't have a billing-related block.
    • Your calls don't have errors on the carrier system.
  10. Restore the phone as new.

Best of luck,

Mario

I'm having much the same issues with my iPhone 5. Calls sometimes don't come through and sometimes when I try to make a call I get "Call Failed." I do NOT have "Do Not Disturb" turned on at all, but checked and it shows "Favorites" so changed that to Everyone. Doubt that will make a difference, as some of the calls I'm not getting are from my husband and he is in my Favorites list.

We contacted AT&T and the representative did what checking she could from her end and reset my phone. Thought at the time that fixed it, but it didn't. I'm still experiencing the same issue. Calls don't come through, just go straight to voice mail. Notification I have a message does come through, though. So strange. Going to have to call them again, I think.

Problem is sporadic. Works fine one day, then the next day he can't call me. It's very annoying, as he is recovering from back surgery and it's important for him to be able to reach me.

I REALLY tried to not have to erase/reload all my phone's stuff, I tried the proverbial turn it off, turn it back on bit that often works... nothing. I checked all my settings to make sure it wasn't on plane mode or "do not disturb" and nope. SO, I very carefully followed these directions and it worked!!!.

I was sure to back up FIRST!!! So when it all restarted I was able to reload all my stuff from the backup I had just made. (Note, there are at least 2 choices for your back-ups, either iCloud or iTunes. Since I have a 64G phone, iCloud isn't good for me with it's 5G of storage, so I always back up to my computer.)

There were a few weird questions and/or "you did that wrong" scary messages, but what happens is you get some questions on BOTH your phone and your computer, so if you answer them on both you get some type of error message. So, I believe I just answered them from the phone, but after the re-boot (before the backup) it appeared that my phone was no longer connected to the computer, so the icon on iTunes went away, I simply unplugged it and re-plugged it in and a fresh "restore from back-up" message came up. I also had to answer the question "Trust This Computer" again on both computer and iPhone, but that was easy. Just be sure to watch both screens for instructions. If the restore doesn't begin after telling your computer "yes", then check the phone to make sure it's not waiting on you to answer a question.

It did take overall about 20 minutes or so, but I'M RINGING AGAIN!!!! Yea! THANK YOU!!!!!
