iBook G4 Keeps Crashing

Hi, im running 10.3.9 on my iBook which i bought off a friend as he upgraded to a macbook pro. I've recently started having alot of problems with it freezing once or twice a day, and I am forced to restart it as there is no spinning coloured wheel or grey wheel, it just freezes. I have read that it might be a problem with the logic board or RAM, but i really dont have a clue. Any help would be much appreciated - im coming to my wits end!!

Thanks

The grey-labeled system install discs that accompany the Mac contain the Apple Hardware Test. Insert disc 1 into your optical drive, read through the Test's Read Me, and follow the instructions. If the extended version of the Test does not report any error, then you need to perform some system maintenance, probably best starting with First Aid in Disk Utility.

have you tried repairing the permissions?? if not, try going to disk utility, selecting the macintosh hard drive and click on repair disk permissions. did your friend pass along the install disks for the current operating system on the computer?? if so, try booting to install disk number one holding the c until you see a spinning cog and then once you reach the installer screen select open disk utility from the installer menu. select the macintosh harddrive and then click on repair disk. also, if you have added ram you might try removing it and seeing how the computer operates without it. if you do not know if you have added ram or how to access it post back with more details about your computer. you can find all the info you need by going into the system profiler hardware overview. (going to the blue apple and "about this mac" > more info.) let me know how that goes. [ 8 ) ]

I'm still waiting to get the install disks off him but my friend has an iBook 12" so I can use his install disks to perform first aid. I repaired disk permissions last night and that went fine, but this morning it froze again, i walked out of the room and it had safari open and when i came back it wouldnt do anything. I've stopped using safari at the moment and started to try out camino and see if the problem is related to safari at all. Theres no added RAM. Another thing - when i took out the power cable last night and just ran it off battery, it didnt crash at all the whole time I was on it. It seems to only do it when its running from power.

Yeah its the apple power cable that came with the computer. Ive got a 14" iBook and the disks i've borrowed are from my friends 12" iBook, aren't they just install disks for iBooks, not specific sizes? I don't know, anyway since using camino i haven't had any problems with it crashing but im still very wary of a repeat of whats been happening. When I get the install disks, what should I do, and if it doesnt work, what happens next?

Thanks
