iBook G4 Keeps Crashing

The grey-labeled system install discs that accompany the Mac contain the Apple Hardware Test. Insert disc 1 into your optical drive, read through the Test's Read Me, and follow the instructions. If the extended version of the Test does not report any error, then you need to perform some system maintenance, probably best starting with First Aid in Disk Utility.

have you tried repairing the permissions?? if not, try going to disk utility, selecting the macintosh hard drive and click on repair disk permissions. did your friend pass along the install disks for the current operating system on the computer?? if so, try booting to install disk number one holding the c until you see a spinning cog and then once you reach the installer screen select open disk utility from the installer menu. select the macintosh harddrive and then click on repair disk. also, if you have added ram you might try removing it and seeing how the computer operates without it. if you do not know if you have added ram or how to access it post back with more details about your computer. you can find all the info you need by going into the system profiler hardware overview. i wouldn't use the disks for the other computer to do disk repair. is this an apple power adapter you're using?? [ 8 ) ]

Try closing the lid, wait for it to go to sleep, then open the lid again.

It sounds like a similar problem that I am having, on which most people seem to think is a problem with the logicboard. You should probably take it in to Apple.
