Macbook Pro hard drive mounting bracket missing

The hard drive of our 17month old mac has died, and when I opened it to replace I discovered the mounting bracket was missing. Could this have played a part in its death?

We've had the laptop from new and it's never been opened before. The 4 x T6 screws on the sides of the harddrive are there, but no mounting bracket or screws for that.

I've got an appointment at Manchester APple Store on Thursday and I want to know if I should be arguing for some compensation for what's happened...

Anybody else find this part missing?

It is possible but not definitive. Your position is not the strongest possible but perhaps with a diplomatic approach you may receive a gratis HDD. But do not assume that this will be the outcome.

Expect the worst and you will not be disappointed. Hope for the best and you may be elated.

Thanks - I've already bought a new hard drive, just want them to upload the OS for me - and hopefully get a new mounting bracket!

I suppose it's too tenuous to try and get re-imbursed for our outlay (including eye watering data recovery bill).

Reloading the OS is not a difficult task. If you boot your MBP with the OPTION COMMAND R keys pressed down, you should see a globe spinning. Select the Internet connection and you will be attached to the Apple servers and follow the instructions.

I would press for the bracket since it is not a readily available part and only Apple can supply it. Reimbursement for the HDD is possible but do not pin your hopes on it.
