How to use Afterglow AP.2 Wireless PS3 Controller for Gaming

I naively bought this 3rd party controller thinking it would be Bluetooth like an offical Sony PS3 controller only to learn that due to licencing restrictions, only Sony is allowed to make Bluetooth controllers for Playstation. However, this is a very nice controller and great value at £18 delivered from Amazon. It also has a pseudo XBox 360 controller layout for the left joystick / joypad which have been swapped over.

Anyhow, if anyone does purchase one of these to use for gaming on OSX, rest assured you have not wasted your money. I could not find a single article on how to get this to work with OSX so wanted to post this to help out anyone else in the same position. I set this up very quickly without any problems to play Borderlands 2 (Steam edition) using a great shareware application called USB Overdrive. Mavericks is fully supported in the latest release. It works very easily by allowing you to bind key strokes to any of the buttons or joysticks in the controller - not a single problem.

I'm running the controller on a 2012 MBPr 13".

Any questions or probelms, please shout.

Thanks

The following part of the original post should help:

Have you downloaded USB Overdrive? It works by allowing you to assign key strokes to the controller buttons and joystick. Therefore, any application (or game) that accepts the keyboard or mouse as an input devcice will work with the Afterglow AP.2 in conjunction with USB Overdrive.

You cannot ditrectly pair the controller with a Mac since it is not a Bluetooth device. The Sony PS3 controller will pair with a Mac directly as it uses Bluetooth protocol.

Thanks
