5S Icons Don't Always Respond To Touch...

I've read about problems with Touch ID and indeed my wife's brand new iPhone has given us some grief in this area.. But I haven't come across anything regarding non-responsiveness of icons on an iPhone 5S; the discussions that have come up are for much older iPhone versions.

Again, on my wife's iPhone touching an individual icon often fails to open the selected app. The only "fix" is to press the Sleep/Wake button and try again. So far, after doing this app icons will respond to touch.

My question: Is there a real fix for this problem or should I return the iPhone to ATT for a new phone? We are still within the 14 day return/exchange period...
