I am trying to set up an Apple account on my new ipad2. When I put in the password it says I need both upper and lower case letters. How do I change from lower case to upper case on the keypad?

Tap the Up Arrow key (found on either side of the bottom row of Alpha characters. Tap once and the arrow should be filled in; tap twice and key is filled, the arrow white - this is caps lock).
You might find the user guide helpful until he get better acclimated to the device: http://support.apple.com/manuals/ Just locate the version that corresponds to his version of iOS.
The keys with the arrow at both sides of the keyboard.
