Q: I can not get my macbook pro to connect to airplay.

I can not get my macbook pro to connect to airplay. I can play itunes music through apple tv.  But can not get my mirroring to work. I have accomplished this at another location. Just not home on my apple tv. I keep getting a message "could not connect to apple tv"? I am 10.9 on my macbook, apple tv 6.0.

Same problem here with a MB Air late 2012 and 3rd gen AppleTV.

    After Restart - Everything works

After Sleep - Airplay mirroring errors with "Could not connect to AppleTV".  Audio airplay works though iTunes just fine.

    • Restarting the Apple TV does not fix it.
    • My Mac Mini never has this problem and mirrors just fine.
    • Restarting fixes it, but sleep kills it again.
    • I have 2 Apple TVs and both cannot be mirrored to from the MB Air (post sleep).
    • Both computers are on wifi.

    Any fix to this issue?

I have exactly the same problem. After my MB pro (2012) goes to sleep, can not connect to apple tv anymore...MB restart solves it but going to sleep while on airplay causes the problem again?!

Did they do a recent update or something, because it used to work fine now I can't connect to the Apple TV.

Same issue here, I am new to AppleTV but it worked until my mac went to sleep and rebooting the mac is the only way to reconnect to apple tv.  How do we get someone from apple to respond here on when they are going to fix?  it seems very easy to reproduce and is affecting likely many people.  The silence is deafening.

Had the same issue with my MB Pro.  Found the following information for resetting the audio services which so far has worked every time.

Haven't tried the automator, just ran the terminal command and the Apple TV and other AirPlay devices appeared instantly.

I was mirroring to my Apple TV when the MBA seemed to go to display sleep. I was right there and pressed a key immediately to refresh the screen, but the MBA had gone to the full login screen -- not the unlock screen. I logged in and all my apps were where I left them, but it seemed the network had been dropped; my browser needed me to re-sign in to my web accounts.

And yes, it appears WindowServer crashed:

Followed shortly by a slew of CGSConnection backtraces.

After that, nothing would allow me to reconnect to the Apple TV. Every attempt resulted in

I tried various things (switching the Apple TV from passcode to password and back, etc; restarted the AppleTV) except I was unwilling to try rebooting the MBA. Killing coreaudiod seems to not fix this one.

The MBA is associated with an Airport Extreme and the Apple TV is wired to the same AirEx.

The MBA screen is, oddly, still locked in with the Apple TV's aspect ratio, although the Airplay menu drop-down says I am disconnected.

    Apple TV: MD199LL/A running 11D169b .

    Airport Extreme: up to date

    MBA: 13' Mid-2011 running 13C64 .

Hi all, Hope this finds you well.

Iam exsperiecing problems linking my new MacBook Pro (running os X Maveriks with the 10.9.2 update)  to my new Apple TV (fully up to date).

they are both on the same wi-fi network. With AirPlay switched on on the Apple TV, and show mirroring option ticked in the display options in systems preferences.

I have gone thru all the check list that winston churchill sugested, but not once since have seen the AirPlay symbol appear on the contol bar.

I can conect to the internet on my Mac (the proof is this msg now!) and I can acess my netflix account, YouTube ect from my AppleTV, but the closest I have come to any kind of share between them both is two tunes from my cloud.

Please help... after searching thru many forums this one seems to be the most comprahensive.

Anyone have a permanent (or any) fix for this problem? I Have the same problem as others have posted here; can't get airplay to work from my MacBook Pro Retina to my Apple TV. It would be nice to think Apple is working on the problem but I am update on all software on the MacBook and AppleTV and the problem persists. This is very frustrating.

Thanks in advance for any new suggestions that you may be aware of.

I finally found out the problem...well at least it worked for me. I have been scouring the internet forums for a fix for my MBA, which used to mirror flawlessly to AppleTV but all of a sudden stopped working. Long story short, I traveled to Europe a few weeks ago and I had turned my firewall on. ONCE I TURNED OFF MY FIREWALL IN THE SYSTEM PREFS>SECURITY & PRIVACY IT BEGAN WORKING AGAIN. Hope it helps others. Thanks.

Go to preferences > security and Privacy and turn off Firewall.  That will fix your issue.

Go to system preferences>Security & Privacy and turn off your firewall.  That will allow mirroring to work.

The comment about the firewall was good, thanks.  I was blocking all incoming connections and upon disabling that I saw that when I tried to connect to the

Apple TV an incoming connection to "coreaudio" was required.  I allowed that and voila.  Back in business.

Thanks for these tips!  Here's how I got it resolved.  I found that coreaudiod was set to block incoming connections in the firewall.  I changed it to allow, but it still was not working.  A reboot after that has fixed the issue.  I've been searching for months on how to fix this.  The reboot after changing the firewall setting was the trick.  I'm typing this as I'm mirrored on my tv now.  Working great!  Thanks to you all for the tips!!
