I can not get my macbook pro to connect to airplay.

I can not get my macbook pro to connect to airplay. I can play itunes music through apple tv. But can not get my mirroring to work. I have accomplished this at another location. Just not home on my apple tv. I keep getting a message "could not connect to apple tv"? I am 10.9 on my macbook, apple tv 6.0.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

  1. Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
  2. Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
  3. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
  4. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
  5. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
  6. Restart your Mac.

I have let it sleep a few times and it appears to be working. The computer falls asleep and then I can connect by clicking the icon.

When I was at the other location, they had connected apple tv to a projector and you pushed your ppt thru it. No wires needed. When my macbook would start to fall asleep, I would hit a key before it totally disconnected, so I really couldn't tell you if it was happening.

I have the same problem. I am becomming increasingly frustrated at the 'it just works' fails that are far too frequent. The whole attraction of an apple infrastrucute is the 'internal communications' ease.

This is appauling for a system of this nature and the solution of a restart is actually quite embarrassing and must make every apple hater laugh their socks off.

Please fix!!

I'm having the same problem. It worked initially, but now it keeps giving me the Could not connect to “Apple TV” message. I've restarted my laptop, unplugged and restarted the Apple TV. I can stream from Netflix, so the Apple TV is connecting to my WiFi network ok. Likewise, the laptop can connect to internet fine.

I'm on a Mid-2012 MBP running Mavericks. I'm also running Air Server, but it seemed to work initially and I've had Air Server running for awhie (i.e. not a new variable).

I'm having problems both before the computer goes to sleep and after it comes out of sleep.

I can not get my macbook pro to connect to airplay.
