Having trouble installing a scanner - the Canon Canoscan 8400F scanner. Any ideas? The scanner does not show up when I use System Preferences Printers and Scanners.

I had the same problem. After I went through some forums, I called the (german) canon supprt. They were very friendly, but finally they founf no driver for Mavericks. Even not at the UK-sie, which should be the most "newest".
They told me that there will probably never be a driver to this scanner. To old ...
