Q: OSX 10.9 Can't print on Ricoh network printer

Hi community,

I'm using an MBPr 15" late 2013 running OSX 10.9. My company uses an Ricoh Aficio MP C3002 network based printer.

With "Printers and scanners" it was quite easy to find and install the Ricoh. After this I ran Software update and installed the latestt printer from the Apple store.

And now it got weird: the printer showed up, was connected and startet the jobs. But nothing was printed. Looking in the job-list I saw these jobs with my user id shown as aborted. Using Terminal I pinged the Ricoh - worked flawless.

Our network ist Exchange Server 2003-based, the Ricoh is directly connected to the network. Prior to the MBP my machine was an quite antique windows machine connected to the same network.

At home I use a Brother network printer which works fine (and prints so far).

Any ideas what could be wrong ?

Help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks !

Michael

Same issue. Nothing I do—connecting via Bonjour, USB, or via the network—seems to matter. It adds the printer no problem, I click Print, the printer (MP C4502) makes some noises and then cancels the job. I tried every install option and installing the RICOH drivers for Mac, but it didn't make a difference. The only option I really have is to use the generic PCL driver, which lets me print, but not using Color or any of the advanced printing options like two-sided printing. I really have a hard time accepting that there is no solution for this!

    Thanks, guys.

That indicates that the driver you are using, or more correctly the printer language used by the driver which is bound to be Postscript, is not supported in the printer.

So this indicates that the machine supports the PCL printer language. The Generic PCL driver included with OS X does only print in b/w. There is an open source driver suite called pxlmono that has colour printer model. This will also let you print duplex.

There are solutions. There is the workaround above. Or the best solution is to get a device that supports printing from OS X. If this requires the purchase of an optional Postscript printer kit then this must be done. Unfortunately for many Mac users in an office environment, no consideration is given to their needs. As long as the Windows users can print, and the company has saved money by not purchasing the Postscript option, then this is considered a solution.

I have another 'solution'. we were locked out because of a code in the Ricoh

Go to Print. If you are in Safari, say, there will be a Safari drop down.

Go to Job Log. Enable User Code if there is one.

Go to Printer features and turn Color 'off'.

Our Ricoh was locking folks out because of this.

Save this as a preset (e.g. 'not color') and try again.

You can also install the full package drivers from Ricoh and then use a Generic PCL Laser Printer driver.

It will come out in Black and White, but it works, if you are not desperate to print in Colour.

I had the same problem. I simply changed the protocol from "Internet Printing Potocol" to "Line Printer Deamon - LPD" in the printer setup and them it worked.

My OS is macOS 1.12 Sierra.
