Oct 17, 2014 9:39 AM in response to macinkby MWBLAND13,I have this problem also. 10.9.4 clients, 10.9.4.server OS, Server 3.12. Tried most fixes listed except logoff hook - not really a fix.
Did a test on local client with 2 users and no network shares. Logged in as User 1. Logged off. Logged in as User 2. Opened Activity Monitor and viewed all processes and sorted by user. I still see 10-12 processes/files open from User 1. May not be a server issue.

Oct 17, 2014 10:36 AM in response to MWBLAND13by D Porvin,That's an interesting discovery MWBALND13. It only happens with Mavericks clients. Lion & Mountain Lion clients disconnect properly and the Activity Monitor is clear of previous users. I can't test it now since were in the middle of the semester, but if anyone else updates to Yosemite please let us know if the problem persists.
Take Care,

Oct 22, 2014 2:00 PM in response to Robert Hrovatby thoughtcrime,I just tested this out with a network user on a 10.10 (Yosemite) client with a 10.6.8 server, and the problem appears to be resolved in Yosemite. I may update one lab (21 workstations) and give it a go for now.

Oct 22, 2014 3:22 PM in response to thoughtcrimeby Robert Hrovat,Yes, the network users are now properly disconnected on 10.10 clients, but there's now another problem with the keychains of these users.
