old firewire to new thunderbolt drive
I have a 2010 iMac 27.
Id like to get a new thunderbolt hard drive.
How do I connect them?
Apparently the firewire to thunderbolt adaptor is one way and not the way I need.
iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), maverick

As far as I know the 2010 iMac's do not have a Thunderbolt port. They may have a Minidisplay port, which is the same size and shape, but that won't work with Thunderbolt devices.
thanks, I know that I dont have a thunderbolt port. I have a firewire input. I am using firewire drives.
Id like to use the new thunderbolt drive.
My question is:
How do I connect a new thunderbolt drive to this mac.
You already know the adapter is one way. I think the logic is being able to access your firewire drives from newer Mac's as they have no firewire ports.
The other way around is counterproductive in that you won't get Thunderbolt speeds. Also the drives are more expensive. If you still want to connect it you can get a Thunderbolt/USB 3 combo and attach your Mac via USB2.
It's not as fast as Firewire 800, but you can connect.
You don't. There is no provision or add on that gives an older Mac the ability to use thunderbolt devices.
