Q: Why doesn't my fade tool work?!!

Why doesn't my fade tool work?!!  It is not in flex pitch mode, I fixed the settings for fades in general preferences, it's not a take folder and I converted the file to aiff.   I did everything that has worked for most people.  I'm so confused...
