iPhone 4s touch screen not working, but Assistive touch does

I have an iPhone 4s with iOS 7.0.1. My phone's screen is cracked, but only slightly, and my home button is missing. It has been missing for about 2 weeks but it hasn't caused any problems because I have been using Assistive Touch.

Tonight, my phone's touch screen randomly stopped responding. The confusing part is that Assistive Touch still works, every single part of it, and I can still pull up the bottom iOS 7 menu with the change in brightness and everything on it, but other than that it does not respond at all.

After I pull up the iOS 7 menu, I cannot click anything on that menu and I cannot unlock it or anything else. I can't even slide to power down after holding the top button. With Assistive Touch, it does not allow me to hold down both the home and power button so I can't force it to shut down either. I do not currently have the computer to hook it up to my itunes account, so this is a real problem. Can anyone help?!

Hi everyone,

I had this problem with my newly bought iphone 7. Because Apple changed the way to hard reset, you need to hold the wake/sleep button (located on the right side of the phone) and hold the volume down button at the same time. This will turn your iphone off all the way and it will turn on by itself.

I tried the same old combo of pressing the home button and wake button at the same time and holding but it doesnt work on any newer iphones such as the iphone 6 and above.

Hi,

I am using IPHONE 4S more than a year now and had no problem at all until yesterday where the problem explained by kadan8 stated. I am facing the same issue past 24 hours.

I am unable to

1. Unlock the screen. where as I can pull pr Push notification areas from bottom and upside of the screen. However I can access notification area, unable to select any of the items on the screen.

2. My sound buttons are not working.

3. Unable to restart the phone or pick up a call/read message.

I am waiting for my battery to die so that a restart can heappen. If that is not working out, can somebody recommend me what steps to take next. I am from India and we don't have any authorized servie center here.

Appreciate your guidance

I'm currently having this same problem, but my power button on the top is also broken. I can't hold it down. The way to shut the phone down with assistive touch (which I now have to use) is to hold the lock option down then slide to shut off. However, my screen is having this same issue. My battery is currently at 100% and it would likely take days if not longer to work it all the way down to 0%.

Anyone have any ideas.

Wow, what a great help - I had the same problem - I was able to get into some of the apps on the phone using Siri - she would open phone, messages, email, memos, but not podcast or music - she claimed I didn't have those apps when I clearly do! LOL

My plan of action was to wait for the battery to die hoping that a restart would help at least, but having had it sitting here for two days, it still had 50% charge. Just thought I would look here to see if anyone had this issue and lo and behold, the tip on shutting down the phone without using the touch screen.

Siri, btw, said that as surprising as it might sound, she is unable to shut down or restart the phone.

Anyway, I restarted using the two buttons and lo and behold, it is now working - I guess this is a fault on some iPhone 4s models! I'm actually ready for a change so am looking to try a Motorola Moto X android phone - a change is as good as a rest - my previous Motorolas were great phones!!

Thanks so much for the help guys.

Are you sure you can't turn off the phone using the method suggested above - hold down both power and function button at the same time for about 10 seconds?

This was the only thing that would work for me when this happened to me - The screen would not work until I got into the apps etc which I could do using sirus, but I could not answer the phone or do many things. Once I reset everything by powering the phone off and re starting, everything worked as normal.

However, it is my suspicion that there is a fault in iPhone 4S given the amount of problems people are having with the screen. Mine threatened to do it several times before it actually did.

Decided not to risk it, so I got myself a Moto X android phone - I love it way more than the iPhone!!!

Good luck.

ive read about so many people having that issue or a similar one, its the assistive touch. i mean it has to be bc everyone with the same problem used it. my ipod 4th gen has worked fine since i got it when it came out, the screen is pretty badly craked and the lock button doesnt work but it worked fine, my home button recently broke so i tried the assistive touch and now it wont even let me unlock my ipod, it will show me the slid to unlock button but will not let me do anything and its been like this for a few weeks. ive let it die then turned it back on, ive shut it down multipule times, ive tried basically anything i can think of and so far nothing has worked.
