My Photo Stream
My Photo Stream is an iCloud service where you can view your recent photos on all of your devices. This Photo Stream feature requires OS X Lion v10.7.2 (or later) and iPhoto 9.2 (or later) or Aperture 3.2 (or later).
Shared Photo Streams
Shared Photo Streams allow you to share selected photos with people you choose. This Photo Stream feature requires OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 (or later) and iPhoto 9.4 (or later) or Aperture 3.4 (or later).
If you own a version of iPhoto 9.x you should be able to update to a compatible iPhoto version, and if you are running MacOS X 10.6.8 or later you may be able to update to Mavericks for free, if you Mac can run this software. With earlier versions, there is no free update, because new releases have to be bought as paid upgrades or with a new mac.
