Have you tried dragging them to where you would like them?
Yes, and they pop back into place every time.
In Finder, select View and select either None or Snap to Grid. None means exactly what it says, you can put icons anywhere where as Snap to Grid keeps the icons aligned neatly to a grid but still where you place them. Any Sort or Clean Up starts at the top Right and words down and then to the left.
I figured it out finally, but thanks. I just don't understand why when you add another folder and sort alphabetically they don't stay in place. They move over to the left side and read right to left.
I guess the best answer is simply that Apple had to choose some scheme to automatically arranging the icons and it chose down starting from the right edge. Why? Because 🙂 The west is oriented left to right top to bottom. Why by default is the hard drive icon at the top right? Because 🙂 Was there once a logical reason? If so I've never heard of one.
You'd think it would be oriented left to right, unless of course the system was developed in Japan, where they read right to left. Thanks.
