Ical reminders move...

Can anyone help me with a tangential issue. While working with my reminders list on my Mac, I can't re-order items. I have "sort reminders" on manual sorting, but they jump around anywhere. If I move one, it jumps back, usually to a place different from its original. I must be missing something...
