apple tv and marantz nr 1501

Will a new apple tv work with this receiver for streaming itunes music from a macbook. The apple tv will be connected via hdmi to the receiver. The receiver hdmi out is connected to a flat screen tv. If I'm just streaming music, I shouldn't need to have the tv on, just the receiver, correct?
