iPod shuffle...blinking orange/green light...iMac no longer recognizes it.

I tried to turn on my shuffle but got a orange/green blinking light. I reset the ipod but no change. I connected it to my computer but the computer no longer recognized it (no icon appeared on desk top). I restarted the machine but no change. I tried to update the ipod but I could not install new software because the computer did not recognize the ipod. The ipod blinks orange when connected to the iMac. Any ideas? Thanks, Nile.

Hello everyone. It seems that Apple acknowledges the problem : I called the support and although my iPod is out of warranty, they are shipping me a new one. There are people dedicated to that on the support team and they told me Apple is investigating the issue.
Again, a call to the support line might be your answer. At the moment, there is no software update I know of that can solve the issue.

I too have the Green and Orange blinking lights of death. I have tried everything there is to try and unless Apple can step forward with a fix via a software update, it looks like the iPods suffering from this FAULT are bricked!

The worrying thing here is the varied response that Apple seems to be giving its customers that are reporting this fault and out of warranty!

Michael Dufranne1 above, along with many others within these forums are reporting that:

1. Apple knows about the problem, and;
2. are replacing these faulty iPod Shuffles even if they are out of warranty?

Where as myself, when I rang Apple Support (UK) to talk about the problem, I am told that they do not know of this problem, I was also told that nothing could be done as my warranty had past, However, I could send it in to be replaced by a refurbished unit at a cost of £66, more than it is to buy a new one - go figure!

I have written a letter to Apple Customer Services in Ireland (UK) to see if I can get this matter resolved.

I think, we all knew that at some point our iPod Shuffles battery would run out, but at least we knew that we would be left with a useable memory stick, however it seems that this Green & Orange blinking lights of death have cut short the life of my iPod Shuffle along with thousands of other people throughout these forums.

Apple - please listen to your customers, and if you are going to replace FAULTY out of warranty iPod Shuffles then it should be the same for everyone, not yes to some and no to others.

I have tried all combinations of the 5Rs including waiting 24 hours - no go on my 18 month old shuffle. I'm the original owner, bought it from an apple dealer. The shuffle only shows in my System Profiler, so I know something on my mac sees it but for all intents and purposes it has passed on. Apple? It looks like the ball is in your court.

I had the same blinking orange and green light on my shuffle. Called Apple to complain, they told me that my warranty ended last month. Also, asked me if I wanted a sevice contract for $59. I don't think so! Yesterday, I went to an Apple store to explain my problem, Bottom line was that they gave me a new one ($7.50 charge). Try it, It worked for me.

Hi, i read from previous thread about the blinking orange/green light of death and some users advised to format the ipod in windows explorer and it would work again.
My ipod shuffle always in blinking orange light before the battery went flat so I decided to give it a go to format it using windows command. The result: the ipod is now always empty everytime after i connect it to itunes.
Is there any solution to reverse this matter?
