I have been waiting silently to see if a fix would come on its own, but none yet. Ever since upgrading to Mavericks, does NOT sync my IMAP accounts correctly. I have gone so far as to remove and re-add the accounts numerous times... no change. The recent "update" that was supposed to address Gmail issues had no affect on my sync'ing issues either. As others have posted, I basically have to quit and re-launch mail for it to correctly show what is on the mail server. All of my iDevices are working just fine - I can read or move an email, and all my iDevices show it correctly... but when I return to my Mac - some show as unread - some messages that I moved or deleted are still THERE (unread), etc.

Once I quit and relaunch, the inbox displays correctly - but there is no way (that I can find) to force the inbox to "refresh" correctly while the app is open. "Getting new" messages does nothing to help. Has anyone found a solution or work-around...? or is this just a "sit back and wait for Apple to fix" kind of problem...?

Mail is not connecting to the server after OS X Mavericks update. Meanwhile the same setting is working from Ipad, Iphone and even in windows mail. We have an exclusive mail server in our office. Connecting to mail server is easy only on the same server network with the same setting only by changing the server local address, but not working by the server IP from the internet.

In my description above - connects just FINE on initial launch of the app, but then goes deaf the remainder of the time running. It does "connect" upon launch - but that seems to be the ONLY time it correctly reads what's on the Mail server.

I too am having the same problem as Scott F.

Before the update Gmail was having a problem and the other imap accounts worked fine since the update a plain ole vanilla imap account is no longer working properly but now Gmail seems to be working better. I too have to close and then reopen it to see any changes to the account even though it works properly and connects to the server when I turn my computer on ... like Scott said, it seems like the client goes deaf.

    iPhone/iPad works fine.

Thanks to Scott for trying the delete the account and then reinstall it. I was going to try this route but will give it a wait.

I'm too getting this issue, only since the new 'Mail fix' update from a few days back. Any changes made to my email (read, deleted mails) aren't being updated to Mail in Mavericks. It just downloads all email as though they're new unread emails.

I'm having the same problem. Mail does not sync my IMAP (not gmail) unread messages correctly. When I read my new mails some of them are still counted as unread. This is the only problem that I had before apple updates the app and still remains.

    Same here...very frustrating!

I've noticed that a "Get Account Info" (for each account) works as well, to force to check for new mail at least.

I have another issue if I close apple mail (so I prefer the "Get Account Info".)

Other issue (not meant to hijack this thread):

    • since spring of 2012, after restarting mail (or when system has been off, or even asleep) it takes a while (10-30 minutes) before the exclamation marks next to my accounts go away.
      • Some email accounts come back soonet than others.
    • "Get account info" doesn't fix this issue.
    • Only occurs with the mail accounts hosted by my domain host.
    • My ips's email and gmail work as expected.
    • The issue started overnight, with a dot release of OS X, and/or something my domain host did.
    • All our macs behave the same.
    • iOS devices work as expected.

The issue aboves shows exclamation marks next to the accounts that haven't yet connected.

The most recent issue (that "Get account Info" fixes for me) gives NO indication that the account is not sync'd.

Remove AntiVirus (if you have one)

It did not make much sense to me, but before I installed another email client I decided to give Mail a last chance: I completely removed my antivirus program (Avast in this case) and suddenly Mail started syncing with my Gmail accounts.

Check if that is case for someone with the same problem.

Only mac mail is not function where as I tried with airmail it works nicely.

I have the same problem. The recent Mavericks update fixed the original Gmail problem (of not being able to get rid of mail from the in box), but this problem is there and very frustrating. Exactly the same as the original post - Mail on my Mac does not reflect the emails filed, moved, deleted etc from my iPad or iPhone. Gmail, iPad and iPhone are all in perfect sync, but the Mac is not.

The only way to force the Mac into line is to QUIT Mail and relaunch.

(By the way, I don't have any anti-virus on my machine, so it's nothing to do with that - its a Mavericks issue).

I have been looking at alternative mail clients as I have now lost all faith in Apple Mail. (I am committed to IMAP and Gmail, on 3 different email accounts).

Yersterday I tried Outlook (as I happen to have a copy with Office-2011 for Mac). I liked it apart from the fact that it won't work with iCloud contacts... so its no good for me.

I'm looking at Mailplane now.... doesn't seem to be available via App store, but I'm going to try a free 15 day trial I found online. I'd say that's how long Apple has to fix this problem as far as I'm concerned.

    Hi Ecil,

Yes, I was having the same issues with mail and gmail, all my account were acting wierd, not showing the notifications right, the numbers of new email or the unread ones. I saw your comment, I happend to have Avast installed, so I went and disable the email protection of it, and then it started to work ok. I then decided to uninstall the antivirus completly to void any other unseen issues. So far mail is now working as expected. So thank you very much for your advice.

I do not have ANY AntiVirus software on my machine at all. That's not to say OTHER 3rd-party software couldn't be interfering, but I don't have any "odd" stuff installed on my machine. No hacks, shareware, control panels, etc.

    ( shrug )
