Q: Mavericks Mail not sync'ing IMAP act. (Not GMail)

I have been waiting silently to see if a fix would come on its own, but none yet. Ever since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail.app does NOT sync my IMAP accounts correctly. I have gone so far as to remove and re-add the accounts numerous times... no change. The recent "update" that was supposed to address Gmail issues had no affect on my sync'ing issues either. As others have posted, I basically have to quit and re-launch mail for it to correctly show what is on the mail server. All of my iDevices are working just fine - I can read or move an email, and all my iDevices show it correctly... but when I return to my Mac - some show as unread - some messages that I moved or deleted are still THERE (unread), etc.

Once I quit and relaunch, the inbox displays correctly - but there is no way (that I can find) to force the inbox to "refresh" correctly while the app is open. "Getting new" messages does nothing to help. Has anyone found a solution or work-around...? or is this just a "sit back and wait for Apple to fix" kind of problem...?

Thanks,

SF

I've been following this thread and many other threads on this topic.  I have also scanned the web looking for solutions.  I've rebuilt my Mail/Gmail folder as suggested in this thread, exactly following the instructions.  The only solution that i have found which works (and continues to work) is as follows:

    1) Login into Gmail > Settings > Labels

    2) Uncheck the IMAP box for the All Mail Folder

    3) Click back to the Inbox (left column) to save your changes

    4) In Mail choose Mailbox > Rebuild

Be patient and let your Mailbox rebuild, all should be well.  The rebuild may take awhile, depending on how big your mailbox is so be patient.

    Hope this works.

I've been using Apple's recommended interim "solution" and it's been working for me.... select the Take All Accounts Offline option in the menu and once that completes select the Take All Accounts Online option.  Has not failed to bring in all mail.  Alterntely, I've also used the Synchronize command for individual accounts and that has worked, too.  Hopefully Apple will have the permanent fix out before long.

Great thank you, what does unchecking IMAP box for All Mail Folder do?

Thats great for you, unfortunately like I said, their 'workaround' isn't working for me.

I think what Apple needs to figure out is what happens differently in their Mail syncing process when you quit Mail and restart vs. whatever their normal process is, or choosing to Take All Accounts Offline button and back Online , or choosing to Synchronize the account, none of which are working for me. When I quit and restart, everything is momentarily synced.

Unchecking the IMAP folder for All Mail appears to allow syncing to occur again.  I am not a tech expert so I do not know the why, I just know that my mail is syncing again.

Btw, 1 brief update to my points above.  If the 4 points don't work, deleting the Gmail account through Settings > Internet Accounts.  Close Mail, re-open Mail and then add the account back.  That extra step helped my wife's computer to start syncing, after the 1st 4 steps did not.

Sorry to be a bit vague, but I don't know if Apple understands why Mail is broken in Mavericks.  They've had 3 months + since the launch of Mavericks and still no fix.  It's hard to believe that Apple would actually release Mavericks knowing that Mail is broken for IMAP.  Hopefully 1 day we will get an OSX update that will truly solve the problem.  In the meantime, this is my best suggestion.

I'm having the same problem.  I'm starting to question why I have Apple products.  I don't want to take all my accounts offline everytime I need to check my email.  I use my computer for work.  Apple is really squandering their reputation.

taylorsm -- are you sure you're waiting for all of the accounts to go offline?  You can tell this by the appearance of the "squigly" symbol next to each inbox on the main Mail window.  Until they are all offline, I don't it's reliable to invoke the Take Online command.

I do not know why, but amblue's solution seems to be working for me. Not only is my mail currently synced, but the items are correctly numbered in all my inboxes!

We'll see how long it lasts....

I'm new in this thread and have a related NEW issue. This morning, I lost ALL of the items in my Sent folders in three distinct domain emails I use (via Apple Mail) on both my laptop and a desktop. (It's the folder just below inbox and drafts.) Strange thing was that they remained on my iPhone just fine. They were all GoDaddy email accounts/domains, so I started with them. They claim it must have something to do with my iPhone settings (which I checked, and which I hadn't touched in months if not years). (GoDaddy did a restore and re-sync, which did not return the items to where they were lost from. As it turns out, they DO appear in the "Sent Items" folders under each email address listed under "Mailboxes"; not sure if this existed before or due to the restore/re-sync.)

Has anyone else experienced this or anything like it? Now I'm afraid to leave items resting peacefully in my Sent folder like most normal people do...

I've just added Mail.app into the OSX firewall list, set to Allow Incoming Connection.   So far it's working.  Time will tell....

This has been an issue for three months now!!!!  They should be embarrassed,  email next the interment surfing is a top use application. What a joke. Not like it's some new cutting edge technology.

Two days in now the IMAP problem has not reappeared, since I added Mail.app to the Firewall list allowing inbound connections.   The problem I was having was that Mail simply stopped updating the Inbox and the only fix was to shut it down and restart it.   Has anyone else tried this and did it work for them?

I've had generally better behavior from all Mail, Mac Mini, MBP and iPhone. I haven't got round to trying any fixes only disconnecting the keychain from syncing with other devices.

I have noticed a definite lack of misbehavior... no doubled up emails, tags working, read counts mostly working, flagged items being the same flagged items on all devices, and reading email on one device and they get read on another.

I really need to sit down and test and check as I'm just going about my day to day business at the moment and no scrutinizing

I can't believe this is STILL not fixed.

I'm really getting tired with how buggy Mavericks is,  usually things are only bad for a month or two before the patches get things right ...
