Q: Mavericks Mail not sync'ing IMAP act. (Not GMail)

What about non-google IMAP accounts?

They tend to have non-google problems.

But you can't generalize with any accuracy.

I've had the same problems with GoDaddy - my two Gmail accounts work fine, but my two GoDaddy accounts the previously worked flawlessly before Mavericks only retrieve new mail when I take them offline first, then check mail, or if i quit/relaunch. I also can't sync properly with my iPhone or iPad, which always retrieve the newest messages, but if I delete a message in those mail apps, they will reappear on the crummy desktop app - so I can only delete messages on my desktop. Beyond ridiculous - I'm surprised more and more people haven't chimed in with the obvious GoDaddy IMAP problems...

new problem today.

i recioevedan email from a company, carrentals.com, and the email on MBP was different to the Mini. This compan ysent me an email 2 weeks ago confirming my booking payment, today sent me an email to confirm my account set up with them, but on my MBP the email in the email list had the text of the new email, but in the display pain had the text of the email 2 weeks ago?!?!?!

on the mini it was fine.

I'm having the same problem with 1and1 (1&1) email.  Just like  Chris I had GoDaddy email and switched to 1&1 because it stopped working and GoDaddy tech support was little help. So much for "Fanatical Support". Anyway the same I ail problems exist at 1&1. My iPad and iPhone seem to sync between themselves but they won't sync with Apple Mail on my AirBook. Quitting and restarting doesn't seem to help me. This problem has been going on for a long time. I'm very disappointed in Apple's response. Great things promised at the WWDC this year but I'd prefer an announcement that this was fixed!  Too many having this issue for too long so it doesn't appear to be a simple software conflict.

It's been more than 6 months since Mavericks was released and Go Daddy IMAP email stopped working with Mail. The only way to get new messages is to restart Mail. (If I didn’t have a MacBook with an SSD, I would have gone crazy.)

Even though Apple may have caused the problem by changing something in Mavericks, it’s surprising that Go Daddy has made no visible effort to solve this issue. Go Daddy support told me that they can’t provide support for 3rd-party clients. They also don’t even seem to have made their tech support staff aware of the problem, even though I know many people have brought it to their attention. They’re missing a pretty big party, 3rd or otherwise.

But I have a solution! I migrated all of my email (15 GBs worth) over to Rackspace. Everything syncs perfectly now between Mac OS X Mavericks Mail, iPhone Mail, and webmail. Rackspace supports the IDLE command for push delivery in OS X Mail and they even support push on the iPhone with their Mobile Sync option (by setting it up on your phone as a Microsoft Exchange account without actually paying for full Exchange).

If you’ve been using Go Daddy or another IMAP host with issues, switch to Rackspace. If you’ve been using gmail, you’re in the wrong thread (and getting what you didn’t pay for).

Well I have been following this thread for a couple of weeks now and none of the solutions worked for me.  But I have FIXED my problem.  I think this solution was mentioned somewhere back near the beginning of this thread, and when I looked previously everything seemed fine.  However, today while troubleshooting a different issue with Calendars not syncing properly, I FIXED it.  (as I was fixing it I had the though that it might fix the mail as well....and I was right)

So, for me the issue had to do with:

System Preferences>Internet Accounts

I had (2) duplicate entries, one duplicate of my icloud account, and one duplicate of one of my email accounts. The only thing I can figure is that because the list is long, I didn't scroll through it and notice the duplicates the first time I checked.  Today I noticed the duplicates, deleted them, and bam...immediately not only does my calendar sync properly but I get mail in my inbox. 

I know there have been a number of solutions that have only worked for a short period of time, but I am pretty sure this is it, for my problem.  I have a macbook pro sitting next to my mac mini, the mac mini is the only computer that has had this problem, iphone, ipad, imac, macbook pro all have been fine.  I have just run some tests having others send me mail and now the mac mini is updating immediately along with the macbook pro.

I have knocked on wood, and am keeping my fingers crossed, because I had started looking at some of the alternative mail clients suggested throughout this thread, and I wasn't too pleased with the feedback in the app store. 

I am surprised at how little information there has been on this issue, as it does seem to have been quite widespread.

I thing Maverick stinks. I have had nothing but problems and truly regret installing it. Has ANYONE found a solution to this gmail imap problem? I read pages here but can only find people with the same problem and no help from Apple people. What is going on with this company?

The simple answer is no, Googles non standard implementation of Imap protocols are best suited to a client specifically designed for Gmail. MailPlane is the best but can only handle Gmail accounts, if you have another, non Gmail account it won't work. AirMail is a good second choice with a wide range of account acceptability.

I understood, and this is the wrong thread. There are solutions, they don't work for everyone but ...

Start your own thread, describe your problem in detail and include the type of Mac you have, it's age and spec (how much Ram, how much free HDD space)

That way you can get individual attention, this thread is a circus.

Are you running the latest Mavericks update: 10.9.3?

I had huge problems with Apple Mail & Gmail IMAP accounts before this.

I use Airmail now because it solved all the problems, and has some other nice features too.

But I've been monitoring Apple mail in parallel, and all has been well since the 10.9.3 update.

I am not having any problems with Gmail and Mail, I never have.

I have MailPlane and AirMail installed for testing purposes but I use Mail for real life.

This thread is for people having issues with IMAP that are NOT Gmail specific. There are tons of threads on here that deal specificially with Gmail. However, I will add that I've got 2 Gmail accounts mixed with 3 GoDaddy IMAP accounts. As of 10.9.3, I am not having trouble with my Gmail accounts, but I still am with GoDaddy.

It was interesting to note that during the keynote for Yosemite, they did mention getting the 'basics' with Mail, like syncing, corrected. I certainly hope so - this has been a ridiculous experience from the first day with Mavericks.

I've tried a few things mentioned here, such as making sure my iPads and iPhone only sync manually - in my case I have not seen really any improvement. I've also visited the System Preferences area and I don't have duplicate accounts there.

For those Applescripts, how do we use them? Should we select them from the scripts menu in the system menu bar, or is there a way to assign a nav button within Mail to the script (ideal) - or is there another way?

I agrre with many, many others, that to have these basic problems in 2014 for a Mail program is beyond silly.

In 2014 to write email systems that flout the standards and then expect vendors to accommodate the bad code is beyond silly.
