Q: Mavericks Mail not sync'ing IMAP act. (Not GMail)

I have been waiting silently to see if a fix would come on its own, but none yet. Ever since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail.app does NOT sync my IMAP accounts correctly. I have gone so far as to remove and re-add the accounts numerous times... no change. The recent "update" that was supposed to address Gmail issues had no affect on my sync'ing issues either. As others have posted, I basically have to quit and re-launch mail for it to correctly show what is on the mail server. All of my iDevices are working just fine - I can read or move an email, and all my iDevices show it correctly... but when I return to my Mac - some show as unread - some messages that I moved or deleted are still THERE (unread), etc.

Once I quit and relaunch, the inbox displays correctly - but there is no way (that I can find) to force the inbox to "refresh" correctly while the app is open. "Getting new" messages does nothing to help. Has anyone found a solution or work-around...? or is this just a "sit back and wait for Apple to fix" kind of problem...?

Thanks,

SF

Well....I am sad to say my solution only lasted a day.

    "System Preferences>Internet Accounts

    I had (2) duplicate entries...."

I am back to the same issues with (NOT) syncing.  This has to be one of the strangest problems I have ever encountered with any computer.  I have the same software running on (3) different machines, and only one of them exhibits this faulty behavior, and of course it is my main work computer.

When I came in to work this morning, there are no emails in any of my inboxes, I click on each inbox separately and they sync, then a coupel of hours later I pick up my phone and (2) of my inboxes show mail, the mac mini shows nothing.  I right click on the inbox and select "synch "mailbox name"" and they show up.

I am as frustrated as anyone with this problem, and I do wish they could find a solution, it obviusouly has something to do with some particular configuration on this computer, and unfortunately it wasn't the duplicate entries in "Internet Accounts"

"It was interesting to note that during the keynote for Yosemite, they did mention getting the 'basics' with Mail, like syncing, corrected. I certainly hope so..."

I tried the Yosemite beta for a week and it was far worse with regard to mail problems. Restarting mail was the only way to get it to check for new mail, and I frequently had to force quit instead of just quit. Yosemite also was not compatible yet with Final Cut Pro, which I use a lot, so I restored a Time Machine backup.

I finally have punted and am not going to try anything special to get Apple's mail to work again. I'm using Thunderbird without any issues at this point.

Like at least one person has stated (I think) most of the Mail problems I've had with syncing my non-GMail IMAP account under Mavericks seem to have cleared up with the 10.9.3 update.   I'm not willing to declare it's absolutely perfect yet but AFAICT, my Inbox updates almost instantly now for the first time since 10.9 was installed

I upgraded to 10.9.3 and now my gmail IMAP is all wacked out and keeps archiving messages

    Mavericks is a disaster.

This thread is for accounts that are not Gmail

Why did you post here if you use Gmail?

I've been working with a very responsive and well-run host (in Pittsburgh). They can find nothing in my settings or their servers which is causing this.

So, reluctantly, it seems as though it has to be Mail on Mavericks, since it all worked perfectly for me before I upgraded at work and continued to use IMAP.

DId you go back and carefully look for new duplicates? They'd be located differently in the list.

although this seems to be turning into a gmail thread, back on my IMAP its still all over the place. Ive noticed that the counts that are wrong, right themselves once the email is highlighted and read in the preview pane. Flagged items only count themselves under the flagged folder once i have found it and 'read' it... same with missing unread emails... oddly..

does this point to anything? any problems?

also i'm on a 2007 intel MBP, quite old, but works perfectly, where all these problems take place. my home 2011 Mini where these email settings are duplicated, doesn't have any problems... same settings, accounts, everything..

Let me see if I got this right, your mail provider has no idea why you have problems so they are blaming another party therebye getting you off of their phone system?

    Is that about it?

    I wouldn't put it like that, Csound1 :-)

The host took my report very seriously, took the trouble to find this very thread, read through it, and concluded - were they not reasonable? - that it is indeed mavericks Mail with IMAP that's responsible, not the configuration of their (IMAP) servers; that's why I posted here.

…hoping that someone might have found a reliable and robust solution.

You can choose the words, the result was the same.

    Good luck.

    Csound1,

As a stolid Apple supporter for decades, I hate to see faults in Apple software.

In this case, though, how is it the responsibility of my host, and not of Mail?

In this case there is as yet nowhere near enough information to make a decision.

    Csound1,

I agree: one can never be sure of anything :-)

But in this case (and I agree, much of the evidence here is anecdotal), it's an unusually long thread - even for these BBS - with many people experiencing a similar set of phenomena.

In my case Mail IMAP worked perfectly with the two hosts I use for IMAP and the same settings until I upgraded to Mavericks. Now it doesn't - with either host (I have been in communication with one, of the two, so far).

Isn't it a reasonable conclusion to draw… that something in Mail has changed in 10.9?

If it isn't, what do you suggest I do to get it working again, please?

    Thanks!
