how do i force facetime to go to my mac?

Ibdanl, and/or others out there having the same issues, look in your contacts on both devices and you can preferentially set your addresses, phone numbers, etc., to specific responses. In other words you can configure your devices by going to Facetime (on your Mac), Preferences, and input into the section which reads (conveniently), "You can be reached by Facetime at:". On Your phone you can list which is your "computer" address, and which is to be used by Facetime.
