May 27, 2014 12:39 PM in response to Marvin Price1by bakerja,I am also battling this in an Enterprise environment. My latest attempt at a workaround was to create a new folder on the desktop and put aliases in there for all of the shares needed. I then copy the aliases to the sidebar. As others have mentioned, their aliases have dissappeared also but so far, mine are holding. Time will tell.

May 30, 2014 9:15 AM in response to bakerjaby PatrickL,I am having the same issue. This is completely annoying.
I'll connect to a network share, then drag the alias to the sidebar. All is good--unless I restart or log out and log back in. Clicking on the alias in the sidebar causes it to disappear! Amazing.
I've tried adding the alias to the Login Items (in Users & Groups control panel), but it doesn't work properly.
Even stranger is that when this all happens, if I look in my network connections (Command-K in Finder) the seemingly ejected network resource is still connected (the Eject button remains next to the share), but the parent folder/share can't be found, thus, I can't save it into a folder. I have to drag files to the desktop, then drag it in using Finder.

May 30, 2014 9:33 AM in response to Jon Levinsonby Brad Jerger,The only thing I've been able to do to mitigate the issue is to always make sure I connect to the server I am using before opening the finder or clicking on any of the favorites in the sidebar.

May 30, 2014 9:48 AM in response to Brad Jergerby David Lawless,Yes, that seems to work for us, also... I set up our Windows server to auto mount at login on a number of our machines and no one has complained about the disappearing folders on those machines. I'm lucky that this is only affecting our Windows server (which is used by a much smaller number of people), so I'm assuming it's related to Apple's new SMB2 based networking protocol. Our Mac Server is still on Mountain Lion and seems unaffected.

Jun 14, 2014 12:37 PM in response to Jon Levinsonby Jim_Kel,I have the same problem with disappearing folders, but in this case with an external Thunderbolt drive. There are two volumes on the drive. One deeply nested folder is frequently referenced, so I try to keep it as a Favorite. But it disappears frequently.
The external drive is not always connected - e.g. when I travel. So I haven't narrowed down when it disappears. But it ALWAYS disappears if I try (by mistake) to connect to that folder, when drive is not connected. But it also seems to disappear sporadically, even without trying to connect.
Just thought I'd add that the folder loss may not always be associated with network drives ...

Jun 14, 2014 3:01 PM in response to Jon Levinsonby NDchemE,I've been following this thread for a while now, but I'm not sure this has been mentioned.
There is an unsatisfactory work around. If you command drag a folder to your Finder toolbar it will stay there. I have a couple aliases to network drives that I drag to the Finder toolbar and have been using for about a month.
It's worth trying if you're desparate for quick access to your network locations.

Jun 16, 2014 6:20 PM in response to Jim_Kelby Trent Harris,Same problem here with external drives that don't always need to be running. If I restart with the external drive off, or disconnected, all the favorites get lost.
Another annoyance is that I have custom icons for my frequently used folders, which makes them easy to tell apart. With Mavericks I can have any color I want in the sidebar as long as it's gray on gray.
The sidebar is now fairly pointless for my workflow.

Jul 7, 2014 10:44 AM in response to Marvin Price1by cubandave,Hey Marvin,
I'm an IT specialist and seen the problem with two different clients. One that uses CIFS and one that can user SMB or AFP(via Extreme Z IP). I'll have to double check to see if using AFP resolves the issue.
Thanks!

Jul 17, 2014 12:55 AM in response to Jon Levinsonby andycheeseman,I opened this thread before finding this one... Network Folder Removed from Sidebar if Clicked and Not connected to Network
+1 for keeping one network folder in your dock, as it doesn't dissappear when the resource isn't available. It's just a case of remembering to click that before visiting your finder window sidebar.

Aug 4, 2014 8:47 AM in response to Jon Levinsonby wei,Just want to add my part of the finding/solution to this discussion. Not sure if it applies to everyone but, after I noticing my folders/aliases of Windows network servers disappear every once awhile after restarting, I did a little researching. I found if the drive/folder you want to add to the sidebar is a locked volume or folder, you may have problem getting it back, either connect to it automatically (via Login Items) or keeping the alias stay in the sidebar. Once I add the unlocked volumes/folders to the sidebar and my Login Items, everything went fine.

Aug 20, 2014 3:01 PM in response to weiby kman527,This is my monthly or semi monthly update. Still doesn't work.
Just spent another fruitless phone call with AppleCare enterprise support. "The engineers are investigating it."
They what a screenshot of the before and after condition. To "make it clearer."
Apparently it's not clear to say the shortcuts are there, and then suddenly they're not there, it is beyond my understanding how a picture could make that any plainer. However I will send them that picture just so they can't say they don't have enough information.
Sigh, dare I say it out loud, but I feel like I'm dealing with Microsoft.

Sep 17, 2014 7:01 AM in response to kman527by mpiet.opis,Just putting it out there that about 10 users at my work have the same issue. When off the network, their network share favorites disappear and won't reappear once they are on the network until they reboot or reconnect to the shared drive.
