Jul 17, 2015 3:14 PM in response to artchicnyby brycesteiner,I recommend anyone with this problem to file a bug report here:
Apple does not seem to patrol the forums and you're voice may not be heard here.
I have filed it and it doesn't take long. If enough of us do, perhaps then we will be heard.

Jul 24, 2015 10:08 AM in response to keygitby David Rosen2,This just happened to me in OS 10.10.4. So this has been neglected at least since last November.
Apple really has a huge number of software issues. Keeps the Apple advisors busy but it's really unfortunate for a company that originally led the way toward user friendly systems. Most Apple application programs are neglected after the initial hype. For example, Pages and Numbers and Safari are inferior to the alternatives for example. Integration of computer and mobiles with iTunes and iCloud is a confusing jumble. We could make a very long list of glitches and frustrations. This will catch up with them sooner or later

Jul 31, 2015 1:15 AM in response to Jon Levinsonby stewbot,A hugely frustrating issue which (I think) started with Mavericks and has not been addressed. I must've added the same folders to my favorites at least 100 times! Very frustrating. I tried to report the bug as was suggested but I couldn't log in! Is this just happening to me or are Apple just fed up with people reporting bugs?!

Jul 31, 2015 8:04 AM in response to stewbotby David Rosen2,This is no surprise. Apple has evolved in a very unresponsive company. Apple provides vanishing little contact information beyond sales and support "advisors" and "senior advisors".
Compare for example the contact information available for Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/about/companyinformation/usaoffices/en/us/default.aspx
With the contact information available for Apple:

Jul 31, 2015 9:40 AM in response to David Rosen2by Colbster182,Yep they don't seem to respond to feedback, they just set up these useless forums so we can complain amongst ourselves. Meanwhile, their software continues to be inferior.

Jul 31, 2015 10:10 AM in response to stewbotby StevenPalm,The problem is that this doesn't affect the iPhone, so it really isn't all that important to Apple any more.

Jul 31, 2015 10:21 AM in response to Colbster182by David Rosen2,Apple software is unfortunately neglected in many cases. Their whole approach to coordinating computers and mobiles via iTunes and iCloud is poorly designed. The idea that a program called iTunes should be used not only for music but for apps and podcasts and much more is ill-conceived. I personally had major problems with iCloud due to a glitch that I attempted to persuade them to address but to no avail. Pages and Safari are quite inferior to the alternatives. I had no choice but to migrate back to MS Word after using Pages for a period of time. A considerable waste of time for me. It's unfortunate that this company doesn't invest sufficiently in software given its abundant revenues. In the long run their hardware design successes will not likely be sufficient to sustain them unless they attend to software. It's ironic because their original success was based on software that was far better designed than the alternatives at that time.

Jul 31, 2015 10:51 AM in response to StevenPalmby David Rosen2,Apple is relying on the iPhone's branding and style. Indeed shortsighted. There is no doubt that there will be major advances will be in the realm of software upcoming.

Jul 31, 2015 8:15 PM in response to David Rosen2by brycesteiner,Completely true. People switched to the Apple software such as Aperture because it set the standard for photo management and a new way of editing. Adobe has now eaten their lunch with Lightroom and the because Apple has said they are done with it. That is just one example.
I find I like LibreOffice better than MS office because of PDF built in and also has a better commenting feel.

It is. Here is a solution that works well for your situation: make a folder called 'alias' then inside the folder put all the network aliases in there that you want quick access to. Now drag the 'alias' folder to your sidebar or drag the alias' to your sidebar. If they get deleted from the sidebar they are easy to still have in the folder or copy them back to the sidebar.

Sep 2, 2015 2:17 AM in response to NDchemEby Communication Common,Thanks. I didn't know you could add folders to the toolbar like this, so it seems like an interesting alternative to having them in the sidebar. Now, I'll just wait to see if they disappear next time the shared drive is disconnected or not..!

Sep 2, 2015 2:38 AM in response to Communication Commonby Communication Common,Argh, just realised that the Finder toolbar doesn't appear in the document Open/Save dialogue within apps like the sidebar does, this is where I most need the direct access, so back to square-one. Ho-hum, thanks anyhow.

Sep 2, 2015 10:24 AM in response to Communication Commonby Roger30,I think the idea is that you would create the folder on the desktop.

Sep 15, 2015 12:43 PM in response to Jon Levinsonby Paulman!,I can even begin to explain how frustrating Yosemite is. This sidebar deletion is just one of the many issues I have with how bad their OS has gotten. Apple just doesn't care about it either. Something works in previous version fine, (ie: Spotlight, finder, sidebar shortcuts,) and then when they "upgrade" they destroy the usefulness of these things and no solutions are given. No help form apple, and i have spoken with techs who say to submit a feedback report, that doesn't do a **** thing. )
Anyway if i don't say something nice to solve the problem, apple has been deleting my responses, so here you go apple. - you don;t "fix" things, but spend time deleting comments that don't help in YOUR eyes. (whoever is moderating, maybe pass the issues along to someone who can fix them???)
So the only thing i got to work is to put the folder in the dock for the server. Nevermind it puts a question mark where the icon should be when it is disconnected, (so you have no visible clue except it is a placemark for something) but it keeps something there then connects when you click on it. I think I can also put a location in the top finder bar, but i'm experimenting at this point with that.
I really dislike all these new "upgrades" apple has done, which only makes things 3 or 4 times harder to do simple things. I'm fully invested in apple, so not much i can do about it, except complain repeatedly until they fix it.
Start with fixing Spotlight, finder, sidebar shortcuts, get rid of expose and multiple desktops that I never use.
