How to position text in cell?

In Numbers 3.0, Only tops of letters show in some cells. This file was an Excel file I opened with Numbers then saved it. I've looked in Cell, Text, Arrange (Left and Top), Size, etc. In the few cells with the problem, nothing seems to bring the text up into the center of the cell like the other cells.

Hank,

The solution here may depend on what value you want to preserve from the Excel document. If you don't care about the formatting, and perhaps were going to change it anyway, you probably can solve this problem by creating a new table in the Numbers table and then Copy the table that came from Excel and Edit >Paste and Match Style into the new table. This will remove all kinds of hidden formatting that you probably don't need anyway.

If you don't want to lose the overall format, you can try just changing the font of the entire table. This has reduced chances of solving the problem. So, then you could try to sort out the problem with some detective work. Look at Format Panel > Text > Style > Font > Advanced... If you see anything strange, try changing it.

Thanks! First: copy, paste, match style left it in need of a lot of format work. So I copied all in Numbers, Table, Resize rows to fit content. Improved overall. The text in one problem cell was visible now, but the row height was larger than other rows and higher than needed. With two columns, I selected the row, Table, and adjusted the row height. Extra top white space remains on the left column. If I change align from bottom to top to center, etc the right column text moves up and down as it should, but the text in the left column will not center - always staying at the bottom and starting to disappear at the bottom if I lower the row height. Font is Arial 10pt, Arrange Size is 951 Height, Table Row is 16pt. The cell has some Caps, Bold, couple sub scripts.

Perplexing. Don't know why I can't make it look like I want. It should display just like it shows and prints (WYSIWYG). I should be able to eliminate the extra white space above text or at least center the text vertically.
