.MOV not opening

Hello all,

My friend sent videoes over Facebook messaging that are in the .MOV format with the codecs: H.264, AAC, with the dimensions: 1920 × 1080, with color profile: HD (1-1-1). However, my MacBook Pro (updated to OS X Mavericks), will not open it, citing that QuickTime might need extra software. It this suggests I look at this site to see if I need additional software: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3775?viewlocale=en_US . In case it helps, the video was recorded with an iPhone 5.
