GDantem I have had all the iPhones since the iPhone 3GS and haven't had to switch out any of my cables. I am now using an iPhone 5S and have had it for 2 months now and cable is going strong. Had an iPhone 5 for a year and 3 months and my original cable still charged that device without any issues. My dad is now using that cable and hasn't complained that it stopped working yet. I think it does matter how we handle our cables. Some are built better than others I just don't think Apple makes a horrible cable we just need to not treat them like they're indestructible.

You guys are being a little naive. You can be as gentle as you want. They're made of crappy synthetic rubber that dry out faster than chapped lips in a snow storm. Think about it. How many iPhone owners do you know who've had broken chargers? All of them? When was the last time you heard the owner of literally ANY other phone complain about a broken charger? I personally haven't in years. My charger broke today, my roomie's last month. Most AT&T stores sell only 3rd party chargers for iPhones because of excessive complaints if that shows you how crappy they are.

I've had 5 chargers so far, and I take care of my devices. I am a freak about it. I try my best to pull the charger out of my device as smoothly as possible, and then the chord snaps out of the outlet (The thing that plugs into the iPod/iPhone) this of course is the new 5th generation charger, which I think is an absolute piece of crap. I never had any of these problems with my iPad charger, and I think Apple definitely needs to do something about this. I don't have money to spend 15 bucks every time a charger breaks.

son has an iPhone 5 bought in May 2013.

his lightning cable stopped charging in early Feb 2014.

same lightning cable was used to on an original iPhone charger, the charger broke, smoke came out of it.

bought a new lightning cable, a Capdase brand. just today, the Belkin charger broke, sparks came out of it and wont charge.

now using a Capdase lighning cable with a Griffin charger, working for now,

is something wrong with the original Apple lightning cable, original charger or the iPhone?

i have gone through 6 charging cables in a year all have broken at the phone end and I have tried other brands with the same result. Plain and simple this is a design flaw it's just a matter of thinking about the fact that apple is making the iphones cheaper so how do you make up the money you lose there you make the accessories way to expensive and crappy. I never had an issue with my iphone 3's or 4's cables
