android not receiving texts from some iphone users

had iphone 3gs for less than a week before upgrading to lg g2. one of my contacts can receive my texts but when responding i don't get anything at all. this is very frustrating. i can't delete my apple id or anything, but apparently this is an imessage glitch? the contact is a professor so it's very important we be able to text each other!

Hey, I have the same issue too!

Ever since I switched from iPhone to an Android device I'm having trouble receiving text messages because my contacts' iPhones still think my number is associated with iMessage. I followed the instructions on many threads, including your suggestion with no luck.

Though my SIM card no longer works (different service provider), I do have WiFi. I've signed out of iMessages on the iPhone and turned that feature off. I also did the same for Facetime. I did this on the Mac as well, no number or iMessage associated with Messages. I then unregistered my device from my Profile (though this might not be effective as I still want to be able to access the App Store -- don't know if that will be an issue). STILL Messages keeps trying to send as iMessage. This even after my contact has removed me from their contacts and added a fresh new number. Their device automatically thinks I have Facetime and always sends (but fails) with iMessage. It's obviously not practically for them to then have to hit Try Again as Text.

Does it take some time to start working? Is there anything else that can be done? It's kinda of crippling now because it's rendering texting completely useless and ineffective.

UPDATE:

I had added a fake number and unregistered my iPhone device under my Apple ID via the editing my profile online and to my iPhone under Phone in Settings -- but this did not work immediately. iMessages still showed my phone number as a possible iMessage route in the iMessage Settings on my iPhone.

I finally had to call Apple and they were helpful and accomodating in fixing the situation. iMessage finally was showing the fake number I set and then I turned it off anyway. Not sure if I had waited would everything had just magically resolved but I felt like calling Apple made sure the fix was thorough and complete.

I think it takes some time for everything to take effect. After a few days things were starting to go smoother with other iPhone users (ones who already had me as a contact). New contacts had no trouble automatically texting me and iMessage wasn't a problem.

In a related note I did have a little trouble with MMS initially as well. I could receive images but the ones I sent never arrived to their destination (even though they said sent via MMS). However, I think this was only temporary as the system "setup" the MMS after I first sent and about a day or two later things seemed to be working and images were being received by receiptents.

Two weeks have passed and everything still seems to be going good with no problems.

Hope that all helps.

After trying many settings I found a solution that worked and now I can receive Text/MMS on my Android Samsung S3 from any IPhone user

Tested on IPHONE 4 IOS 7

Go to

Settings > Messages and turn off imessage

Then go to

Settings > ITunes and App store: From there SIGN OUT of your apple account

Once the Apple ID is cleared, turn off your IPhone and have your friends with an IPhone delete your number, add it back then send you a text.

Enjoy!!!

We switched a family plan # from an iPhone to an Android and were unable to send messages from iPhones to Android - as outlined above, it kept trying to send as iMessage.

- We unregistered number with Apple. This was insufficient, although at least messages were flagged as "undelivered", while before it looked as if they went through.

- I went into Settings - Messages on my iPhone and turned "Send as SMS" on. I believe off is the default.

- I sent a message to the Android phone. It tried to send as iMessage and failed, but immediately retried as SMS. This automatic retry was successful, AND resolved the problem, as all subseqeunt messages are not being sent as iMessages, even though I turned "Send as SMS" back off.

Downside may be that all iPhones trying to text the Android may have to do the same, although I am not sure of this.

Hi there, did you try this?

I've tried everything I've read on so many posts and nothing is working. I use my phone for work so I am in a real bind as I'm not getting messages.

I've deleted my number via Apple Support, I've tried getting friends to turn on Send as SMS and send, which works, but only when iMessage is turned off (of course), and a myriad of other things.

I'm at the end of my rope here guys.

I found that if the iphone user goes to settings, messages, and turns on "send as SMS", then deletes and re-adds the droid contact and makes sure the phone number label (to the left of where you enter the phone number) is set to "mobile" it should solve the problem. It did with mine when a friend of mine switched to a droid. I have a 5S and she has an LG G2.

I listed everything I did since I didn't try one thing at a time. Doing all should only take a few minutes though. It took a good 5-10 min for it to work once I sent the test text message.
