Mail box full???

Hi there, Not sure whether this particualr forum is the right one (could'nt find a forum for Mail).

Anyway, I am all of a sudden unable to send an email (literally from one minute to the next). Message was something about check my server/verify ect.

I did, and then aother message said that my mail box was full - see below.

The IMAP command “UID COPY” (to INBOX.Deleted Messages) failed for the mailbox “INBOX” with server error: Quota exceeded (mailbox for user is full).

Strange (as I do not have a lot of emails saved, and hardly any in my deleted or trash). Anyway I went to delete some more and it wont let me delete because the mailbox is full ....arhhhggg. I dont know what to do. Suggestion. My server is with a hostmonster account. Ive never had any trouble with it.

thanks, Janis.

Often mail providers will have a storage limit for an account, so if this limit is reached then the server will issue a signal to your email client that you are out of space. In these cases, often a remedy is simply to empty your junk mail and trashed mail items, but you might also consider listing the items in your inbox by size, and then removing the largest ones. Often attachments can be rather large, and result in using up your allotted space (the "quota") for your account.

At other times, you may be able to contact your provider and request more space, or purchase more space.

Thanks Topher

I have deleted a whole heap of large files as you suggested. Then restarted computer.

Still get this message.

Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator.

The server response was: Verification failed for <janis@janisconstable.com.au>Mailbox quota exceededSender verify failed

Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.

Really dont know what else this could be. Mailbox is quite bare now.

Often this problem can persist if Mail cannot properly sync with the server. Does your email service provide a Webmail option (ie, like Gmail)? If so, then log into that and use it to delete some of the large and unwanted collections of mail. This should ensure the messages are removed from the server so clients like Mail on your Mac can access the server without receiving error signals.
