iPad Air & Filebrowser (NAS) = very slow

When using the Filebrowser app (or any similar app) to view images (~3MB) on a NAS device (QNAP) using 5GHZ Wifi, the file transfer speed is exteme slow considering the 300mbps iPad Air bandwith.

I only reach 1.2-1.3 MB/s which is 2-3 seconds for a 3MB jpeg to load, that is extreme slow considering the specs of the iPad Air.

Anyone any ideay why this is so slow?

iPad, iOS 7.0.3, 32GB WiFi model
