When updating to Mavericks on iMac, is metadata in iPhoto lost?

OS X Mavericks won't modify iPhoto or the iPhoto library, so you won't lose anything. However, it's good to make a backup of your files with Time Machine before upgrading > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
iPhoto 9.5 supports metadata, so you won't lose it
does the same applies to upgrading mac leopard (v 10.5.8) to snow leopard. the version of iphoto in leopard is the '09
